Oh wow a monopoly is practicing anti competitive advertising. What a shock 😱

[-] Rooki@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

But you can already see the hurdles of large instance like lemmy.world.

The costs are so immense (probably because of some unoptimized code), the software isnt "ripe" enough that it can be left alone for few months and have it run smoothly. It needs permanent monitoring and maintenance. And that doesnt even go into the moderation issues.

Sadly thats fediverse, instance come and go as they like. Because behind them are humans that do this in their freetime ( most of the time out of their own pocket ). Big respect to everyone hosting a federated instance.

But the worst too. As saaid many got new pets and ditched them after the lockdown. It could be some of them are from some shelters but many got ditched afterwards too

[-] Rooki@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yeah, the pandemic just gave us the best example why many people shouldnt get pets that require a lot of effort and time.

At the start of the pandemic many people got cats / dogs ( of course bought them not adopted them ;( ) because they were home and had time during lockdown. But after it was over they didnt had any time and gave it up for adoption.

Everyone needs to check if they have not just now time but in the future too and if they have the money to have the pet. And get yours best from adoption as this reduces the "intentional-pretty" breeding, that harms them ( for example pugs and their 24/7 breathing issue ).

Ironically the cheapest crap contains vegan stuff like wheat or rice. And cats ( at least my cat ) doesnt get so well with such things.

That was quick

[-] Rooki@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Yeah what you are directly talking is some sort of SSO login for each software.

It will need to be cheap af if they have any sales. No Trackpad no back buttons nothing special

[-] Rooki@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

It will be difficult to implement and pretty much at the end of the list for the software you want to implement.

Users most of the time dont want to get identified ( some are here because of the privacy ) and if you want to get identified you can just use PGP signing.

Hello World, As many of you have probably noticed, there is a growing problem on the internet when it comes to undisclosed bias in both amateur and professional reporting. While not every outlet can be like the C-SPAN, or Reuters, we also believe that it's impossible to remove the human element from the news, especially when it concerns, well, humans.

To this end, we've created a media bias bot, which we hope will keep everyone informed about WHO, not just the WHAT of posted articles. This bot uses Media Bias/Fact Check to add a simple reply to show bias. We feel this is especially important with the US Election coming up. The bot will also provide links to Ground.News, as well, which we feel is a great source to determine the WHOLE coverage of a given article and/or topic.

As always feedback is welcome, as this is a active project which we really hope will benefit the community.

Thanks!

I tried to connect but the server and website seems offline.

Sad to see the old school server go.

Hello world,

we chose to close down this community and redirect everyone interested in wordnews to https://lemmy.world/c/world because we want to reduce the load on moderators and have at least locally on the instance less duplicate communities.

We did this action with the cooperation of the mods in c/world and c/worldnews.

Heyo,

i swapped to Pop!_os 2 days ago ( from linux mint, because i wanted some change and found pop_os ) and i like it!

I have just few points that i would like to share:

  • That the displays scaling cant be changed per monitor untilthe activation of "Fractial Scaling" ( just as a beginner "weird" behaviour )

  • You cant disable / make the "Active window" border smaller.

  • You cant hide the top bar ( but thats acceptable as it hides itself if you are in full screen )

  • Customizability/Lack of keybinds ( for example move active window to Screen 1,2,3 with Super + 1,2,3,4 )

  • (The pop_store lags? sometimes if i search? idk if its just a known bug or if its something on my side?) )

But its still very good and it has some cool features and simple installation!

Thanks for the System76 devs for making such great OS!

I want to finally move to linux. But i am unsure whats the best.

I searched for some distros and i came to two distros i could imagine using.

  1. Kubuntu
  2. Fedora Workstation ( or Fedora Silverblue or any other Inmutuable desktop )
  3. Linux Mint ( Thanks @owenfromcanada@lemmy.world )

I am open to any other distro / ui if there is any good for beginner.

I know Fedore is related to Red Hat and many dont like it because it is a Enterprise Linux and paid. But i dont know.

My things i would like to do on Linux would be:

  1. Browse ( Lemmy ;), watch YT a bit )
  2. Code ( and use SFTP and SSH )
  3. Game ( few and simple games, some are on steam )

Thanks and have a great day!

EDIT: I am on Linux Mint now its great! I love the customisation its like the pre enshitification windows 7 where you changed almost everything . I like the multi Workplace function. The only sad thing is that my gpu driver cant use open source drivers. I like that encryption is ready to use. Everything is fast, easy to use. I use steam with proton. Its just great!

Its an ad for a energy company. I hoped it would never happen but here we go. Ads on the canvas. Either those are bots because they are hyper active and many.

Thought this is a user canvas not advertisment canvas.

edit: Its the political party "Volt Europa" that is even more worse.

Good to know this is a political advertisement campaign board. A better note for next time.

I am done here. But keep in mind you ( @ Volt voters ) your ad isnt welcomed here.
