Richard Oakes, born on this day in 1942, was a Mohawk indigenous activist and leader within the Red Power movement, playing a prominent role in the 19-month occupation of Alcatraz Island from 1969 - 1971.
Oakes promoted Native American studies in university curricula and is credited for helping to change U.S. federal government "Termination" policies (policies regarding assimilation of indigenous people into the culture of the colonizer) of Native American peoples and culture.
In 1969, Oakes led a 19-month occupation of Alcatraz Island with LaNada Means, approximately 50 California State University students, and 37 others. On January 5th, 1970, Oakes' 12-year-old daughter, Yvonne, fell to her death from concrete steps. After her funeral, Oakes left the island.
In 1972, Oakes was shot and killed in Sonoma, California, by Michael Morgan, a YMCA camp manager. Allegedly, Oakes violently confronted Morgan, and Morgan responded by drawing a handgun and fatally shooting Oakes.
Oakes was unarmed when he was shot. Morgan claimed he acted in self-defense, and was acquitted on charges of voluntary manslaughter.
"We do not fear your threat to charge us with crimes on our land. We and all other oppressed peoples would welcome spectacle of proof before the world of your title by genocide. Nevertheless, we seek peace."
Richard Oakes

Why do I keep playing Helldivers 2? All it does is piss me off. I end every single mission screaming myself hoarse and punching my CRT until my knuckles are bloody. I wish for nothing but an endless pox upon the worthless scum who join my missions, and when I try to play solo it's even worse because I can't blame anyone else when I get caught trying to stealth and inevitably start an endless cycle of reinforcements chasing me from wall to wall across the map. I hate the stupid primary weapons, I hate the stupid heavy weapons, I hate the stupid sidearms and grenades. I hate the stupid robots that charge me with chainsaws, I hate the stupid insects that charge me with claws. I hate hate hate hate HATE!
But I do enjoy calling in eagle support and seeing a big kill streak.
Gamer post.

Amber.
It's also fucking stupid how so many of the bots have weak points on the back side BUT ARE FASTER THAN YOU. Wearing scout armor and sprinting away full speed a hulk will still outrun you. Spawn next to a flamethrower hulk? Better luck next time sweaty
If I had a dollar for every time someone threw my respawn right into a bunch of heavies I'd have like fifty dollars. They should let you pick your respawn location on the map.
I would be happier if they just made it a little easier to tell what the fuck you're dropping in on. I know there's the pod steering booster but it always feels like I have half a second to figure out what the fuck is going on and woops i am in front of a flamethrower again
Yeah, being on comms with people is huge here because you can tell them where you're throwing them, even mark targets for them to drop on.
Sometimes people will tell me "just throw the respawn on my body" and it's like, bro, you just died on your body, and now you don't have your gear. I am not throwing you back there.
BUT THAT'S WHERE MY GEAR IS!!
I hate respawning halfway across the map with my quasar cannon on cooldown because I'm essentially useless without it
Yeah. the best thing is to throw them in cover near by then you both push back to their stuff together.
Stun grenade helps with that a lot, but really you need a team mate to run a flank and/or hold aggro.
There's too much fucking armor and making it so that EVEN "ARMOR PENETRATING" WEAPONS DEFLECT FOR 0 DAMAGE is a really FUCKING STUPID design choice
EVERY WEAPON i've unlocked has been WORTHLESS. The only reason i've ever changed from the liberator penetrator is because at least the sickle has infinite ammo. Everything else just fucking sucks.
I unlocked some plasma punisher ffucking gun and it has like SIX SHOTS before reload. Wow, so fucking useless, and ofc they just bounce off armor. I can't wait to spend 200 more medals to unlock the blitzer and find out how uniquely FFUCKING USELESS it is
It's so fucking boring having to use the quasar cannon EVERY SINGLE GAME but if I don't I just literally cannot deal with all the fucking armor in this stupid fucking game
And no people I don't need you to give me advice, unless you're playing 100% on helldive difficulty (like i do) I'm probably better at the game than you
Do you have stun grenades? They make it a lot more reliable to put amr or ac rounds through a hulk's face plate, or to use precision strikes to take down heavies. I have become totally dependent on them.
I feel your pain. My problem is I've got some strategies/loadouts I really want to play that are still multiple battlepass pages away (I just got enough super credits last night to start on the one that unlocks the eruptor). No I won't pay extra for a game I spent $60 on to unlock things slightly faster.
The eruptor at least seems like a good weapon, I stole one off a guy and it didn't seem to suck ass. I haven't seen a blitzer yet but I really imagine it's going to be dogshit and I fucked myself not getting the eruptor warbond
It's kind of limited right now bc they turned off the shrapnel effect that gives it most of it's damage. I guess it was doing too much friendly fire insta kills but i never saw that. If they fix that, though, it's a really unique and cool primary.
The blitzer is goofy bc it's an arc weapon but the stuff, infinite ammo, and no need to reload can make it a good cqc choice with strong cc. But it has the same limits as the arc thrower - bodies can block the shot, it can fry your teammates.
G*mers love helldivers 2 because they know that they too will "dive into hell" where they belong soon, inshallah
I enjoy the struggle
But I will say that primary weapons are severely underpowered and I try not to rely on them as much as my advanced/heavy weapons.
I've actually had the most success using the Senator revolver out of all the non-heavy weapons, lmao. My biggest pain points are my grenades and primary gun because I feel like I just haven't unlocked any of the good ones yet - if I had the stun grenades and the eruptor I wouldn't rage so much.
Storngly recommend going for stun grenades. For me, they're far and away the biggest game changing item. They let you use weapons and strats in ways that wouldnkt be possible otherwise.
You've got the right idea. Primaries are for self-defense against smaller enemies. Most of your killing power comes from strats and support weapons. I legit think a lot of people are holding themselves back with shield pack and guard dog. Swap them for air strike, orbital airburst, or gas strike and your offensive output has dramatically increased.
If you've got it, though, the jar is an all purpose life eliminator.
HEARTWARMING: Based CRT user hates Helldivers II
I'm sorry, man. HD and Magicka are very hard to play if you can't achieve a level of zen about the chaos.
I actually like the game a lot, this post was just venting after a really rough round.
Understandable o7
