Maybe we can't, but we can certainly not vote and make things much worse!

Voting isn't the only way to have a democracy. Try to build an opposition outside parliament.

[–] Veneroso@lemmy.world -1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Oh sure that is great plan.

One man's dissentor is another man's dissident.

You know what happens to dissidents?

First, a list is created. Names are checked off, collated, cross referenced. Names become numbers.
Numbers are collected or concentrated together. After the concentration, solutions are devised, mulled over. And then there is solution that is final.

Fucking vote. Vote like your life depends on it. Because it fucking does.

If your system is so far gone that an non-parliamentary opposition will be put into camps, then why are you not fighting to abolish it?

[–] Veneroso@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

You can't change the system without working from the bottom. Grassroots community action and mutual aid. Change hearts and you can change minds. Thinking that you can change the system by enabling the opposition is literally accelerationism and you're either not arguing in good faith or are a Russian bot and no longer worth my time.

Grassroots community action and mutual aid.

That's what I mean with opposition outside the parliament.

[–] Veneroso@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Well that is the end goal, it's not going to work overnight. The point I was trying to make was harm reduction. Biden is certainly not my choice, but the cabinet he has is quite good. The down ballot has races with actual progressives that I do support.

By not voting in this election, you're choosing to be okay with the result. And if the result is Trump? I fear that it'll take decades to recover, if we ever do. It didn't work out for Germany, but who is going to successfully invade us? Not with Europe dangerously flirting with Fascism certainly. It's as if the sacrifices from 80 years ago are completely meaningless.

Now, regarding mutual aid. There are two channels that I recommend that have videos on this.

One day, probably not in my lifetime, I would like to see us achieve fully automated gay space communism. It's a long road, but if enough people are discouraged into not voting because our corporate leadership can't front the ideal candidate..... It might be eve online? Or maybe we'll be an irradiated wasteland.

Personally I'm holding out for a meteor or when the sun starts fusing iron in 4.5 million years and swallows the earth. Talk about global warming!

Where did I ask anybody not to vote?

[–] Veneroso@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

My apologies, I thought that your statement was exclusive of rather than in addition to.

That defeatest take is rampant in these threads and I am sorry for replying prior to re-reading it.

I think I get your frustration. Don't sweat it.
