I don't know, The Orville without Grayson is like TNG without Riker. You'd still have a show, but with a massive hole in it. SG-1 pulled it off when RDA left the main cast, but only after a pretty shaky season.

I think the issue with SG-1 post-Anderson had more to do with the fact that they'd wrapped up all the major storylines in a pretty satisfying way and had to suddenly get new villains.

I think the new cast worked really well - especially once they just bit the bullet and had Claudia Black full-time. But the Ori/Arthurian stuff felt very forced.

Her loss. ‘the filming pacing was too slow’ ?? It was COVID, honey.

They should make Bortus the new XO. :)

Not necessarily her loss if the show loses cohesion without her. The relationship she has with Mercer was pretty central to the show.

In fact, I would say this would be bigger than losing Riker considering how complex their relationship and their past are.

I hope that, after three seasons, they’ve concluded that arc. Imagine seven seasons of Riker and Troi ”will they, or won’t they?” The smartest thing the writers did was have them both move on from their old relationship and still be friends.

And saying she transferred away then having her come back one or twice a season in a recurring role is still possible and believable.
