Is Bob Dylan considered classic rock? because if so, then I can't stand his god awful voice and music even in his album recording days. I also had to listen to him at a festival I was volunteering which made me question why he hasn't retired then and was looking around for a pair of ear plugs (this was like in 2005 or 6).
He sounds way worse now if you were wondering. I saw him in 2019 and his voice was exactly what you would expect from someone who smoked two packs of cigs a day for 60 years.
I thought he died like 40 years ago.
He should've
Bob Dylan's harmonica is some of the worst I've ever heard. It's like he's punishing people for not listening to better music. Actual physical pain.
As a trillbilly fan, I'm contractually required to
i think he should be, correct era and i defy anyone to make a definition of 'rock' that could pare him out without catching loads of generally accepted rock bands/songs too
No, Bob Dylan is not classic rock.
I fucking hate Bob Dylan specifically because his live acts suck. "Just don't go" how about he just plays his songs for his audience? I was at a music festival and he performed with his back towards the audience almost the whole time and played nothing but 10-year old b-sides. The next day reviewers were falling over themselves to suck him off for being an avantgarde genius, to show that they "got it" and totally weren't owned.
There were so many retirees in the crowd who had never before had the chance to see Dylan, but does this smug fuck care? No, apparently fuck his audience for enjoying his music! How dare they show up and want to hear a guy they listened to since they were teenagers? The audacity of this dude, I want to give him a wedgie and dunk his head in the toilet.
I'm not saying you can't have some fun with it or be experimental as a performer, but when you're deliberately doing shit with the purpose of making a worse experience for your audience then you've lost me, unless you then go on to donate all your money and go to a convent.
There is one exception to this, and it's when you make clear satire that gets picked up unironically by chuds. A rap group in my country made some songs that were so hateful it was ridiculous, with titles like "everyone who dances is gay" and "gays bleed pink". Despite being just obvious mocking of homophobes, bigots still picked it up.
So what do these guys do? They end their act and at their final show they unmask themselves, make out with each other and reveal that a featuring artist on one of their songs was actually a hardcore feminist that the bigots in the crowd hated.
That's how you hate your audience, not this Bob Dylan "woe is me, people want to hear my hits" sad sack bullshit.
