Hoping to beat my record of 12k. Who knows what will happen if I make it that far?
For the uninitiated

M8 thats the point, its a hyperbolic way of saying that there was an internet argument between shinji haters and non shinji haters, the former lost.

Then that's not the same point as the one I am making? You're saying that's the point, and then saying the opposite of what I am saying - That there is an objective answer.

Ok, if you value calm discussion then you have the options of not engaging in a hostile way or just log off for a bit?

I am responding in a hostile manner because you are engaging in the processes which I have described as being frustrating.

[-] Egon@hexbear.net 2 points 3 weeks ago

Who? Gendo? Rei? Lol. Lmao.

Dude, the stakes is that everyone will die if he doesn't stop the angel in episode 1. I don't know who loves, but they're part of everyone.

You see, the crushing weight of the task at hand is exactly why he is St. Shinji. To "fail" so purely in meeting tremendous unfair expectations set by what seems to be an uncaring universe.

Yeah, I agree? It seems like you think I'm arguing it's fair or good to expect these things of him or something. I'm not.

You are currently not alienated enough from the socioeconomic order to relate to the sentiments, so you read it more literally and get frustrated. You don't see the picture behind the bigger picture.

Legit fuck you. Don't make assumptions about me and don't condescend me. Of the two of us you're the only who at the moment is failing to read into text - you are arguing as if I dismiss the bigger picture, the themes or the motivations of the characters, despite the fact that I acknowledge them. This is what I am talking about with "misinterpretation" and "frustration". You have made up your mind that I am arguing from a position which I have never claimed to inhabit, that I am dismissing arguments which I acknowledge, that I do not grasp very base-level stuff of the discussion. Despite getting these things responded, you decide to further entrench yourself in the position that I either do not understand or acknowledge these elements.
This sucks. If you're gonna be a troll, then troll someone else please.

Nah that's an understatement lol it's so horrifically FUBAR that, as you mentioned, it's funny.

Yeah I wonder if I made it an understatement on purpose to keep the tone of this discussion light and funny.

[-] Egon@hexbear.net 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Ohhh yeah you bet!!! Your side got annihilated!

debate-me-debate-me type language about something that doesn't have an "objective" foundation or singular "correct answer" is funny.

Nah you were crystal clear buddy. I'll be seeing you.

I always am, and people still manage to misinterpret me. A lot of people on hexbear are very dogmatic, triggerhappy and predisposed, which leads to a lot of situations where people half-read something, make the worst assumptions about the other and then begin to argue something that wasn't even mentioned by the other. It happens so often.
That's what I mean by miscommunication. That behaviour then leads to frustration, which leads to more hostile responses, which leads to the people who have already made up their minds before even reading a response, to get further entrenched, which then leads to more bad faith arguing, which then leads to more frustration and so on and so forth.

Hope you enjoy it! It's a bit chit-chatty at times and Marcus does veer into "true crime voice" once in a while, which I find cheesy, but it is very well researched and the format is otherwise compelling.

I'm not going to expand on this because it's too much to type here, way off topic, etc. but I experienced an attempted murder of myself (one of many people shot directly at by someone- I wasn't struck, but it was a mass casualty event including deaths). I have diagnosed PTSD from that event. I suspect almost everyone there that day including first responders afterwards probably have it PTSD.

I'm very sorry to hear that. An experience like that is incredibly harrowing and can set itself on your core for a long while. I hope you have people around that you can rely on when it all is too much <3

All that said, couldn't happen to a worse person. I recognize Trump has humanity as we all do, but he doesn't recognize that about millions if not billions of others on this planet. So, I hope they keep asking him questions about it.

Yeah I feel no sympathy for him and it couldn't have happened to a worse guy. I just felt the need to comment about it, because I've seen people elsewhere say variations of "wow what a loser, he should just toughen up." and I think that line needs to be squashed.
I hope they keep asking him about it too.

If it were me personally, a question that would suck to keep hearing would be like "how do you feel that others died that day while you hid and then ran away?" If someone from CBS or something could just pepper that one in, I think we might legitimately see a crying Trump on TV. Or maybe he'd go silent in disbelief and internal emotions. Maybe he'd be fine. I dunno. I wanna see it though.

Have you seen the clip of that streamer gifting him a cybertruk wrapped in the fistpump photo? Very funny.

However, the real thing is that China just has way the fuck more people, so even if there were, by percentage, statistically less people pursuing higher level education, the actual amount of people doing this research in China is staggering.

Maybe it also has something to do with what the research labour goes into. The best and brightest in the west end up doing things like: Market research. Figure out how to sell more soda. Figure out how to make new variant of peanut butter. HR (protecting the company from any responsibility). Endless redundant work that is only done due to patents, copyright and IP laws. Figure out how to make iPhone thinner. Figure out how to bake more ads into the OS. Lawyerstuff most of which is also just handling bloat and redundancy.

When you look at what you can do with your degree (make money, be dissatisfied with your job) it's no wonder more and more people decide to look elsewhere. If all you can do is this, then you might as well choose a profession with a lower barrier of entry and (oftentimes) an equal or higher wage.

Like most anthropologists end up in marketing or HR. Same goes for sociologists. How many people aren't just spending their days making perfume? Make up? Paper work? There's exceedingly few options for doing things that "feel" like they matter, and if you get one, then the wage will probably be terrible.

Contrasted with China, which also has bloat and redundancy and pointless jobs, but it at least seems to also have avenues available for those that wish to use their education for something "important". That vibe will probably get more people into academia, which in turn will get more people into scientific research.
Not to mention that China actually invests in the infrastructure needed to have a robust foundation for research.

Sorry, didn't see you wrote this as a chain!
Yeah I don't think she's attracted to him, I think she's aware he's attracted to her and she uses this to control him. It's a tool she has available that she uses to mold him into the person she needs him to be.
That's still grooming.
She does this because she's also in an insane militaristic environment that demands too much of her, but she still does it.

Barry was exceedingly normalobama-spike

[-] Egon@hexbear.net 11 points 3 weeks ago

He started the campaign to promote a book. he used to be friendly with the Clinton's, I wouldn't be surprised if they decided on doing the pied piper strategy together

Is he filled with dread, knowing how close the reaper came, or regret that he was not allowed the final rest?

[-] Egon@hexbear.net 14 points 3 weeks ago

I get it, he feels like he almost died. That can get to you.

Makes it all the more funny that his supporters are plastering that fistpump photo everywhere, it must infuriate him

Misato has ice, snacks and 50 GALLONS OF BEER in her fridge lmao. Mood. Her car is wrecked and there's a monster that might kill her and all she can think about is car payment loans lol. She's just like me fr. Well, except for the groomer vibes she's giving off.

I'm sure it's gonna get depressing very soon, I hear all the characters suck and half of them are sexpests. Seems like you get a pretty decent understanding of why they suck though. I already dislike Shinji though, dude get in the fucking robot the world is ending. I guess sucking is hereditary, because his dad sucks too, fucking dumbass. Dude if your son is "the chosen one" when it comes to piloting these things and you're all "I must sacrifice everything for the mission" then sacrifice some free time to be with your son so your top pilot is less psychologically messed up.

NERV is in dire need of a psych team though, insane that there isn't a dedicated therapist to help the pilots deal with trauma.

Also it's so beautiful! I miss old anime like this and Akira, everything just gets to breathe. It's so pretty every frame is a painting. The women have noses and they look like women, which is also impressive. Sadly there's still only one body type women can have, but at least they can look humanoid.

Anyway, bit idea: Guy who only watches Evangelion for the fights.

Edit: Okay so Shinji managed to make two friends and they get sent away. The dude needs a support network, how incompetent can his dad be? "Huh my best pilot is getting some friends? Can't have that, we need him to be as mentally unstable as possible!"
Dude needs to be fired.

Double edit: Now on an episode where an EVA goes berserk and tries to attack the dad and he just stands there looking at it and then when it breaks thru to him he's shocked. The guy is absolutely not beating "himbo, but not actually hot, just dumb" allegations

This all started because they shut down the marijuana-market in Christiania. They shut it down due to gang-violence, which is only present due to the police raiding the place in the 00's, arresting all the locals and then expecting the issue to go away. To nobody's surprise organised crime, which had supplied marijuana to the market, now moved in and manned the stalls as well.
This wasn't too bad, but tensions have steadily grown, though the area was never particularly violent. Maybe the constant police raids didn't help, who can tell?

They tried shutting down the market several times, both with and without the help of the citizens of Christiania, but it never really amounted to anything. To nobody's surprise, whenever they shut down the area, you'd see a drastic increase in gang violence across Copenhagen, as they would now have to fight for territory. The danish police likes to claim that they are the ones who have ended these gang wars, but time and again it has been the gangs themselves that ended these wars by way of internal dialogue, usually after a particularly violent episode.

This dialogue has been facilitated by the knowledge that the market in Christiania would re-open, but this no longer seems to be the case.
So now we have escalating tensions between gangs in Copenhagen and the police aren't really doing anything, nor are they capable of doing anything, because they can't just rest on their laurels and let the gangs figure it out on their own, since the go-to solution has been removed. The police is used to doing some token action and then claiming responsibility for solving issues, which means it is expected they solve this, but they can't, because they don't actually understand why these things flare up or stop.
I fucking hate the cops, stupid corrupt motherfuckers

Stay safe, I'll be back in an hour.

Edit: my knee started hurting, so I walked the last part. I'm back now and nothing seems to have happened. This either means something momentous has happened that the public is not allowed knowledge of, or that I have lost the baton of heaven (get it? Like mandate of heaven, but it's a relay race because I'm running. It's contrived, but it's the best I could think of)
