Unpopular Opinion
Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!
How voting works:
Vote the opposite of the norm.
If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.
Guidelines:
Tag your post, if possible (not required)
- If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
- If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].
Rules:
1. NO POLITICS
Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.
2. Be civil.
Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...
Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.
5. No trolling.
This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.
Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
I’ve never come across a friendly vegan community. I’m not exactly looking for one but the ones that make themselves known tend to have extreme takes. There’s nothing wrong being vegan but their online community sure feels they’re going about it the wrong way, being overly dismissive and defensive rather than open and helpful.
You are now banned from c/vegan
It can depend on how one interacts with the community as those who are open-minded are often welcomed and taught the ethical ways of doing things.
lol. “If you agree with us, you can stay.”
That's why we have the vegan community for vegans and open-minded meat eaters.
As long as the carnitas keep their dirty, meaty mouths shut, right?
People with speciesist tendencies are not allowed on the community however if they have an open mind sure!
So why have a community on a federated instance? Why ban people for passive participation?
People need to learn about the vegan subculture. Why should a community shut itself down because others cant handle different ideas.
You're the one shutting out others, champ.
Anyone banned commenting carnist rhetoric can still view the posts and comments while they bid their time during their well deserved timeout.
Bullshit. I've never once commented in your community, but you banned me today, probably for downvoting the obnoxious, self-righteous memes that your sub periodically dumps in my feed. And surprise, surprise, now that you've banned this, "carnist rhetoric," your downvote percentages don't look so bad! You went from only getting 40% to 70% upvotes on posts to 80% to 90% in the last 8 hours. You're not giving people a, "well deserved time out," you're gaming the numbers to manufacturing consent.
The worst part is I actually defended you guys during the catfood debacle, saying that no matter what you thought of the content, the admins were way out of line to override your moderating decisions. If I'd known you were going to be as petty and manipulative as they were, I would have kept my mouth shut. On the bright side, your naked attempt to make your community look less unpopular is the best argument I've seen for anonymizing voting on Lemmy.
You banned me from c/vegan for a well written post that I made in good faith. You didn't send me a message, so I can only assume that you banned me for no other reason than you wanting your community to be an echo chamber.
Many of us came to Lemmy to get away from self interested power mods like you. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.
And what about those voting or not posting "carnist rhetoric?" Or is that just anything that isn't directly from your own mouth?
Banned!!!
She banned me for a well written post that I made in good faith. I wasn't saying "veganism bad" or anything like that, I even wrote that I was in huge support of the lab grown meat industry with a view to ending the demand for traditional meat farming. I was just putting my pov forward and suggesting a better way to engage with people who aren't vegan.
Didn't even get a message saying why I was banned, I can only assume she wants her communities to be echo chambers. It's such a shame, many of us left Reddit to get away from self absorbed, power hungry mods like her.
If you can't handle the opinions of the general public, you should probably get off of the soapbox.
Or they can block your community and talk shit about vegans on every other thread after having an experience that validated what they've heard about those communities
Which is what happens most, if not all, of the time
So thanks for that, we don't like reading that spam either you know
"It's okay if I kill intelligent animals because a vegan was mean to me once."
Imagine un-ironically believing that's what they're saying.
Your reading comprehension is terrible, just like your attitude on every thread
Well, at least their username is accurate.
