Summary

Consumer confidence has declined since Donald Trump’s return to office, with the University of Michigan reporting a drop in sentiment and rising inflation concerns.

Many Trump voters are frustrated by market turbulence and sweeping executive orders. Voter Paul Bisson fears economic instability, saying, “That’s not what we signed up for.”

Geneticist Nicholas Schuch plans to move savings to Swiss Francs, expecting ongoing chaos.

Polls indicate growing anxiety, with some supporters questioning Trump’s policies and their long-term economic impact.

I dunno if I like articles like this, because I haven't really heard anyone really say this. I like in podunk Midwest state and folks around here are set that things are already getting better, and if they aren't, it's because of the last administration or because Democrats keep getting in the way.

Online, comments from articles and a certain sub reddit are all bouncing around ecstatically and shouting "WINNING" with everything that is happening. I'd like to think the mirage is fading, but I have been able to find truth of that just yet.

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago

Lmao fuck all of them. This is exactly what they signed up for. You fucked around now find out you worthless cunts.

[–] meowmeowbeanz@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 hours ago

You wanted a circus, now clutch your pearls as the clowns riot. Democracy’s corpse twitches while you gawk at the monster you stitched from Fox propaganda and Facebook memes. “Not what we signed up for”—as if arsonists get to rage when the flames lick their own shoes. The system’s rotted, but you’d rather blame the maggots than admit you’re elbow-deep in the carcass.

Enjoy the show. Your messiah’s a carnival barker, and you’re the rubes who bought tickets to the end. No refunds.

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

What is some? I mean if 1% of his supporters are having second thoughts is that enough to care about. I mean we need REAL numbers not just a few people who suddenly woke up and made the news.

[–] Corno@lemm.ee 13 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

The reason I find it hard to sympathize with the people who voted for him is because he's been advertising everything he's currently doing for the past few years, and now the people who voted for him are surprised that he's actually doing what he'd said he'd do.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 1 points 9 hours ago

He literally said he didn't care about people and just wanted votes

[–] neon_nova@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 9 hours ago

My Trumper dad told me that he has never seen his industry this slow before (starting in January). He has worked in this industry for over 40 years. He then goes on to say that he can't wait for Trump to fix the mess that we are in.

WTF? He is the reason your industry is so slow. How can he not see that it started being slow once Trump came into power???

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 70 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Bullshit. I live in a red state. They're not turning on him at all. You can always find a couple of people to express any view that you want to amplify and write an article pretending they're representative of their entire group.

[–] Default_Defect@midwest.social 24 points 21 hours ago

Exactly, go to any conservative space and they're just happy that the "libs are getting owned."

[–] gimmelemmy@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Imagine if they could imagine how the rest of us feel

[–] ctkatz@lemmy.ml 4 points 13 hours ago

that's really rich. chaos is the reason he got into the office in the first place, and was offering nothing but chaos for 2 years before the election.

[–] ubergeek@lemmy.today 22 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Um, he is doing exactly what he said he would do. These people just thought being white would keep them safe.

[–] phx@lemmy.ca 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Not even. There are even people in immigrant families that voted for him because "he's only going to deport the bad ones" and then [surprised Pikachu] a bunch of their own family get deported

There's stupid, and there's zealotism, but stupid zealots are the worst

[–] notyourbuddy@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 14 hours ago

Friend of mine is Mexican living in Texas and voted for him because he thought it would help him get a job. I didn’t ask for more of an explanation but that is the kind of shit we are dealing with.

[–] militaryintelligence@lemmy.world 13 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Bullshit. Trump supporters have no idea what "market turbulence" means and are cheering the executive orders. This is just manipulative feel-good bullshit.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 1 points 9 hours ago

This, I keep hearing about how "Thanks to Trump common sense is being restored!"

And when I ask what they mean by "Common Sense", they tell me the most transphobic shit I've ever heard in my life and give me a lecture about how it's "time for me to stop playing dress up"

And I'm like "Dress up? I'm a fucking tomboy who happens to be a transgirl, what exactly am I dressing up as?"

I know what they mean, but pretending I don't makes them angrier, and at this point I hope they have strokes.

[–] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 63 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

Trump voters don't care about these things. they have a completely different rhetorical frame. this article is bullshit. trump voters are liking the chaos a lot because they think its good because they think liberals are bad. all you need to do is follow the usual conservative talking heads if you want to know what they're thinking.

I hate this clickbait feel good happy toxic optimism shit. it doesn't do any good to anyone. this article was only written to keep leftists stupid. downvote this fake garbage.

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 18 points 22 hours ago

I hate this clickbait feel good happy toxic optimism shit.

Every time I see an article like this, I go check old.shittyplace.com/r/conservative and see nothing but Trump cheerleaders. When the tide starts to change there, I'll believe they might have gained a spark of awareness.

[–] Ahrotahntee@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The media is publicizing these lies to keep people from getting the idea that they need to do something.

"Oh good his voters are turning on him" helps placate the opposition. It keeps people from wanting to do something.

[–] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

no, they're doing it because it gets you to post the article on Reddit and Lemmy, to your Facebook so you feel like youre winning the debate with your dad.

it's pure nihilism

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am adjacent to a lot of Trump voters through my wife relating conversations from her 95% Trump voting company. Other than having to stamp out some offensive exuberance, there has been no reaction to any of it. They are just excited about the ascendency of the right and waiting for the "benefits" to percolate through society.

Despite having gay kids they support, etc. Any doubts or second thoughts they are having are not being shared. Could be the network effect of not wanting to be the first to break faith, but that could just as easily be wishful thinking.

Until they stop admitting to voting for Trump or start outright saying, "We fucked up," this is just nitpicking his priorities.

And it's going to be a whole fuck-ton more than just economic instability, you dumbasses.

[–] Floon@lemmy.ml 0 points 8 hours ago

We signed up for Nazism! Not for our subsidies going away!

[–] UncleGrandPa@lemmy.world 26 points 22 hours ago

you didn't just accept it

you fucking demanded it.

[–] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 33 points 1 day ago

"This chaos isn't what I signed up for" says people who voted for chaos goblin who told people he wanted chaos

The "I told you so"s will never be worth it.

[–] Objection@lemmy.ml 10 points 20 hours ago

They really wrote a whole-ass article about two random schmucks lol

[–] niketunic@lemmy.world 115 points 1 day ago (1 children)

“this isn’t what we signed up for”

literally everyone has been trying to tell you it is

[–] Zero22xx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 37 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They signed up to make everyone else suffer and now they're shocked and dismayed that they're probably going to suffer too. I feel for everyone that has to share a country with people that would throw them to the wolves first chance they get while demanding unearned respect for themselves. But if I were religious, I'd tell these people to rot in hell.

Seriously, if sanity ever returns to the world, I hope that the lesson we walk away with is that right wingers, conservatives and religious fundies should never be allowed anywhere near positions of power again. Because when they have it, their whole aim is to uplift themselves and only themselves while fucking over everyone else in society.

[–] PorradaVFR@lemmy.world 70 points 1 day ago (1 children)

With all due respect, this is exactly what you all signed up for you stupid fucking pieces of shit.

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 30 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"all due respect"

Not much respect is due here

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 11 points 23 hours ago

Don’t worry, none was given.

This is not only what you signed up for, but you signed the rest of us up for it too.

Thanks.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

With all due respect

Which is about Zero.

[–] sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 196 points 1 day ago (7 children)

No. This is exactly what they signed up for. WTAF did they think was going to happen?

[–] otto@sh.itjust.works 89 points 1 day ago

They expected to never face the consequences of their shitty shitty actions.

[–] Aidinthel@reddthat.com 54 points 1 day ago

They thought the leopard would eat other people's faces and not theirs. Remember that one lady from his first term? "He's not hurting the right people." That quote tells you everything you need to know about his voters.

[–] 14th_cylon@lemm.ee 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They hoped for cheap eggs and open racism.

[–] sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 10 points 21 hours ago

They are 50% there.

Throwback to his first term when one of his supporters said "He's hurting the wrong people!"

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I wonder if anyone has done a "where are they now?" on that guy and tracked him down and found out how he's voted since.

[–] regrub@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago

I believe it was a woman who said it. Either way, their motivation for supporting Trump seems to be to cause harm to people they believe deserve it, and the motivation hasn't changed.

[–] TootSweet@lemmy.world 89 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Do we really think there's a significant number of Trump voters out there who regret their vote? Really?

It seems far more likely to me that most Trump voters are doubling down. "Prices are going to come down way lower than they were before Trump took office. This is actually Biden's fault. Prices are going down, actually. Particularly eggs, depsite what the woke MSM would tell you. In fact, eggs are cheapest in states with the least restrictive gun regulations and highest deportation rates for illegals. Prices have never been this low. Trump is making Mexico pay our grocery bills."

Sure, you can find one or two people who will claim to be regretful Trump voters. (Just like you can find a very few microbiologists who swear the universe was created in six literal days around 6,000 years ago.) But I can't imagine any significant number of Trump voters having that much self awareness and intellectual honesty.

THEY ARE DUMBFUCKS!!
