“We know that these drugs traveled all the way from Mexico, over the United States’ southern border, and then made their way here to Canada where we stopped and seized them,” said Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw at a press conference Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The US is a narco-state. Always has been. Should tariff them until the Sackler family are serving life.

[–] JoeDyrt@lemmy.ca 2 points 23 hours ago

It’s why they could not win “The War on Drugs”.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 1 points 17 hours ago

ahem You're welcome?

[–] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

They love their coke fotos.

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 83 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Can those guys not secure their own borders?

World’s largest defence budget and where does it go?

Sad.

If they want maple syrup and real egg sandwiches they should get their borders under control.

[–] hoi_polloi@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

They don't care about drug trafficking. Donald wouldn't have pardoned one of the biggest violent drug kingpins otherwise.

[–] NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 day ago

I feel like maybe we should tariff this country to hell for not preventing all these drugs and guns coming over from their border?

[–] jared@mander.xyz 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Wait, what's a "real egg sandwich"?

Possibly my favourite Doug Ford moment. Taking time out of his press conference to shill Tim Hortons

https://youtube.com/watch?v=wxSIPyPNbNg

Edit: omg that channel has some golden moments. How could I forget Doug Ford swallows a bee

Once we've dealt with our current outbreak of fascism, someone needs to send that man to Tudor's Biscuit World. Tim Horton's can't compete with that particular fast food chain.

Edit: I live in San Diego, and every time I'm back in the South East, I stop and get Tudor's.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

TBF, Tim's is amazing. As far as chain places go, it's got way better food and coffee than Dunkin (though Dunkin's wins in the donut category). I never say no to Tim's.

[–] Grimpen@lemmy.ca 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I don't know about amazing… but perfectly adequate.

Their doughnuts are fine, and are always fresh with the Always Fresh™ system, but not as good as in the old days, or old Robin's Doughnuts. But they're fine, and pretty cheap. You can probably get much better doughnuts at a local bakery, but it will almost certainly be somewhat more expensive. They ditched the Long John though! An insult to BC. Typical Ontario based chain.

Some coffee snobs will dump on their coffee, but it's okay. You'll rarely hear any sincere complaints from habitual coffee drinkers. There is some stiff competition on the fast food coffee front though, McDonald's scooped their old coffee supplier, and lots of people do seem to prefer McDonald's coffee now. I still give the nod to Timmie's though.

Overall, I figure Timmie's is a solid B+ among fast food chains. There are a few gems on their menu though, their steeped tea is solid. I guess technically you could get better tea at David's Tea, but there is only one of those left, and besides for a basic "builder's tea" it's just a good value.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

I mean, you can't really compare chain coffee to ye olde local shop. They both have their time and place. But yeah, B+ is pretty accurate. I really enjoy their habanero chicken wrap and cheese twists. Also agree that McD has weirdly good coffee for a chain, but I try to avoid them in general.

TBF, I've also been to a lot of local shops that use horribly burnt coffee, so they're more of a wildcard than a guarantee. Tims is consistent and fucking everywhere

[–] Grimpen@lemmy.ca 1 points 17 hours ago

Good point on the consistency. Timmie's coffee is very consistent. Regardless of your personal opinions on Timmie's coffee in general, you can be certain that the coffee you get tomorrow in Kapuskasing will be the same as the coffee you got yesterday in Kitimat.

[–] Contentedness@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not Canadian but I like how he calls it "Timmy's"

[–] non_burglar@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Most of us do. :)

[–] AlpacaChariot@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

A sandwich with eggs from a chicken, instead of the traditional Murican Haribo Egg sandwich.

[–] imvii@lemmy.ca 65 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Maybe we need some tariffs against the USA until they clean up their act along the border?

[–] BedSharkPal@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I mean we get more fentanyl from them already. Not to mention all the fucking guns.

[–] JuxtaposedJaguar@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 day ago

Canada needs to stop subsidizing the US with its fentanyl trade deficit

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Same deal down here in Mexico with the fucking guns. Literally why we have cartels here with high powered weapons.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 23 points 1 day ago

Let's add another 25% on top of our tarrifs for the US until they fix their border, bunch of amateurs

[–] Punchshark@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 days ago

We need to build a wall to keep muricans out!

[–] LeFantome@programming.dev 20 points 1 day ago

We should be calling the US media to run stories about the problem Canada has with drugs coming over its southern border.

[–] shittydwarf@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Maybe we should build a wall..

[–] Krik@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 2 days ago

...and let 'murica pay for it.

[–] vk6flab@lemmy.radio 9 points 2 days ago

To save money and storage, you can use the bricks of cocaine intercepted at the border .. silver lining.

[–] vk6flab@lemmy.radio 25 points 2 days ago

So .. sanctions and tariffs?

[–] EarthShipTechIntern@lemm.ee 9 points 1 day ago

Cocaine & poutine!

Best party ever (in the evidence locker, after hours?)

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Well, what does Trump have to say for himself? Why is this somehow not his fault but would be any other leader's fault?

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

He only knows how to blame others and can dish it out but. He can’t take it though, just like every bully that ever existed. He can call our PM governor and call into question our border and our sovereignty with the largest platform on earth but he can’t face the reality that they harm us with their guns and drugs and they can’t handle that our PM called him by his name, and not his honorary title. The US is a craven, pathetic, fash country.

[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Call him Capo Trump. He'd probably think it's a compliment.

[–] JuxtaposedJaguar@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

Calling prime minister Trudeau "governor" is fine but calling president Trump "Donald" is too far.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He doesn’t care, it’s just drowned out in the noise of controversy.

[–] JuxtaposedJaguar@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

It makes great television.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 days ago

The firehose of illegal drugs and guns just pouring in to Canada from the US is a national security issue for Canada. We should and must act accordingly.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Add 50% tarrifs to US imports until the US figures its drugs issues out

And we're keeping the cocaine

[–] FreeBooteR69@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

For security reasons we are going to have to up our tariffs.

[–] HeadfullofSoup@kbin.earth 5 points 2 days ago

We should raise tariffs each time a illegal weapon is found coming from the US that will be a augmentation of 1000% tariffs before the week-end

[–] Showroom7561@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 days ago

Trumps wall seems to only have one-way doors on them, eh?

Keep your guns and drugs out of our country!
