Someone's being a pissbaby because nobody wants to buy stuff from fascists. Lul.

This makes me think he just has no idea what a boycott is, because for it to be illegal, purchasing a Tesla would some how have to be legally mandate.

[–] officermike@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

Don't give them ideas.

Common misconception.

Land of the fee.

🎶 … of the free hypocrisy 🎶

[–] Vanderdeckenscopilot@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This seems hypocritical. Didn't all those "Snowflakes" boycott Budweiser last year?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trump said “radical left lunatics” are “illegally and collusively” boycotting Tesla, which the president described as one of the best automakers in the world. This action, Trump said, was meant as an attack on Musk and what he stands for.

It is not illegal for consumers to boycott companies. The Supreme Court in 1982 ruled the First Amendment protects Americans’ rights to protest private businesses.

This is pretty much the reason high ranking government officials are supposed to be divested....

Also:

Tesla shares popped more than 4% in Tuesday morning trading. In addition to Trump’s promotion of Tesla, the stock may also be helped by a note to clients from Morgan Stanley advising them to pick up shares after the steep decline.

Sounds like Morgan Stanley doesn't want to be left holding the bag...

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/01/13/morgan-stanley-ups-tesla-target-gives-bull-case-of-800.html

Less than two months ago they predicted it would go up to 800 so they told people to buy it...

Instead it dropped to 200, and they're still telling people to buy it.

When an investment company just always tells people to buy a stock regardless of what happens, it usually means they're heavily invested, so the higher the price the more they make.

So there likely is illegal manipulation happening, it's just trying to do the opposite of what's happening

[–] Cephiroth@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Exemplary insight in your post, bravo.

[–] JacksonLamb@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Pity he's a liar and won't actually use one, I like the thought of him being on fire.

[–] medusadeluxe@lemm.ee 6 points 1 day ago

The thought of him on fire gives me more joy than it should.

[–] IzzyJ@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Hed probably keep burning for weeks

[–] GaMEChld@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I don't think former Presidents are even allowed to drive. Current ones, definitely not.

[–] Baphomet_The_Blasphemer@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Hey, anyone heard from the My Pillow guy lately? It's almost like there's been a dozen or more recent examples of why it's a bad idea to tie your political beliefs to your business.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

TBH he sold a shit ton of pillows for political beliefs. Lots of my Bible thumping family bought them.

[–] officermike@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My girlfriend's mom bought pillows for herself and gifted us towels, much to our disappointment. The towels are unremarkable.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I would have asked for a gift receipt, returned them, then donated the money to Planned Parenthood or something like that. Then given them the donation receipt for their taxes.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean those were pretty bad. He likely sold more than he would of to the chumps he grifted. I mean if ben and jerry owned my pillow and it was the same quality I would not have bought one.

Would have. Would've. Think about it. What could "would of" even mean?

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"It's illegal to boycott" translates to "You're legally required to buy this product". Anyone who can't see that that is completely moronic bullshit already has there head up Trump and/or Elon's ass for the delicate aroma.

[–] SkavarSharraddas@gehirneimer.de 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'd say it's more like "telling others not to buy something is verboten."

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Bad news for every snowflake Republican that boycotted Budweiser, Oreos, Target, and every other brand that has the audacity to support, serve, or even recognize the existence of LGBT people.

[–] Kornblumenratte@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

telling others not to buy something from Trump's buddies is verboten. Remember: it's the President's burden to interpret the law.

[–] circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ahahaha the felon saying voting with your wallet is illegal. Couldn't make this shit up if you tried.

before I was this specifically about it I made a comment to him buying one mentioning he said this. oh yeah a government that views not consuming in the right way. totally not an authoritarian nightmare.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Trump is just throwing fuel onto the fire, it’s all he knows how to do.

The problem is Tesla was politicized. Now they are very politicized.

Like, if I was a Tesla CEO or board member trying to save the company, I would have begged him not to do this.

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait what

How the fuck are you gonna force me to buy a Tesla

[–] cows_are_underrated@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Especially since no one can afford them.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

What part about 0% APR don't you understand? /s

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Poor Elon Musk.

How’s he going to feed his kids if we don’t buy his cars?

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

How’s he going to feed his ~~kids~~ human shields if we don’t buy his cars?

Slight correction.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That dipshit doesn't even drive!

[–] Voyajer@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

He can't even if he wanted to

[–] Theprogressivist@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago
[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 9 points 1 day ago

FREEDOM is when Boycotting Goods and Services you DONT want is ILLEGAL!

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

lol, yeah. That will help, 1 Tesla bought by your boss. That’s like when my Aunt Theresa bought all my Girl Scout cookies so I could win a prize.

[–] Zippygutterslug@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

All those stories about mad kings end the same way, things aren't looking good

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I can't even afford a used car from 2015. Even if i wanted a Tesla, which I don't, I wouldn't even be able to buy one.

[–] HeadfullofSoup@kbin.earth 6 points 1 day ago

Maybe the one he bought will explode near him with tesla you never know between a fire or a explosion

[–] medusadeluxe@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

He buys one and another 3 just got set on fire. His one isn’t going to do jack shit.

[–] Cephiroth@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This fucking idiot knows nothing about anything.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What do you think, is Cunt d'Orange or Cuck a l'Orange better? I hate the cuck incel talk so I'm going for the first.

[–] Cephiroth@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The first really hits hard, so I’d say that as well. ‘Cuck’ is too soft.

Krasnov Von Shitzinpantz has a nice ring to it.

[–] segabased@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Even if boycotting were illegal how in the fuck would that be enforceable?

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Simple, just put out an EO requiring every citizen to purchase a Tesla.

[–] notsoshaihulud@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Nice! Turn teslas into rolling MAGA bumper stickers!

What I love about this that it already takes twice as much to insure a model Y to my comparably sized EV. if Teslas are gonna get disproportionately vandalized I wouldn’t be shocked if insurance premiums will go up further. So even if the cars value drops, the movement can still offset that with increasing the cost of ownership.

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago

Gee, he sure owned those libs.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

In other words, Trump is stupid as a brick.
