After hours of hiking into the night, I reached this spot less than 300m from the crater. Moments like this — face to face with Earth’s raw power, I’m humbled and reminded of our place in the universe.

Volcán de Fuego is a wonderfully unimaginative name for an active volcano.

i mean the indigenous people called it Chi Q'aq' 'where the fire is' so i guess the spanish remained true to the translation. fun fact it has small eruptions every 15-30 minutes
