After learning that soup is sterilized in the canning process and doesn't actually need to be reheated, I pretty much always just eat it straight from the can. It saves dishes and microwave time, and makes it extremely easy to just grab and go if I need something for the road.

But, somewhat understandably, I haven't met anyone else who does this.

Only if im living in a post apocalyptic hellscape and scavenging to survive.

So no. Not yet. Anyway.

But soon.

No, I heat it up. It tastes better and has a better texture when heated.

Cold soup from a can sounds post-apocalyptic. I heat it and have it in a bowl, possibly with croutons or a slice of buttered bread.

No, cause I'm not a fuckin degen

[–] breadguy@kbin.earth 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I just put the can right in the micowave

[–] Frjttr@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago

Best choice lol

Cooking is one of my favorite things on the planet, so absolutely not. I regularly spend all day cooking in anticipation of sitting down to a delicious bowl of soup for dinner. Takes all kinds though, so do you and enjoy your cold soup in a can!

Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meatballs is better straight out of the can, and I will die on this hill

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

The only person I know who does this is a former Navy man.

[–] revv@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

Great for camping or if you're just feeling lazy. Just rip it and sip it. πŸ˜‚

Due to my habit of eating soup straight from the can, my partners refer to it as "bachelorette chow." I remain unrepentant.

I don't eat soup. Full stop.

"I stare at the soup until congeals into a solid clump. Then I eat that."

[–] vext01@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I used to eat baked beans cold from the can when I was a student.

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago

when I was a student.

Haha... yes....

[–] maniel@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 weeks ago

Dunno, I like warm/hot soup

[–] Sunsofold@lemmings.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I'm all for not wasting the resources involved in dishes but cold canned soup is kind of nasty. I'd at least warm it up if that's an option.

[–] ObtuseDoorFrame@lemm.ee 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Don't eat from the can. The inside of the can is lined with plastic, so if you heat the can itself the plastic will leach into your food.

[–] AndrasKrigare@beehaw.org 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh, I don't heat it at all, I just eat it room temperature

[–] ObtuseDoorFrame@lemm.ee 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh! Interesting. Eating cold soup out of the can sure is a vibe. Way to be yourself!

[–] redsunrise@programming.dev 10 points 2 weeks ago

"way to be yourself" is a great backhanded compliment haha

[–] vext01@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You know that the food is cooked in the sealed can at the factory, right?

I watched a documentary about the heinz factory and that was one of the surprising facts I took away from it.

[–] ObtuseDoorFrame@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago

I guess I didn't know that. Yikes. I'm glad I don't eat many canned goods.

[–] monovergent@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago

I have a mug that's twice the volume of a condensed soup can. I'll put an arbitrary amount of water in the electric kettle, dump the contents of one can into the mug and then fill the rest with the boiling water. Result is soup at the perfect temperature for consumption. Makes me feel better than having instant ramen when I'm lazy imo.

[–] kindenough@kbin.earth 2 points 2 weeks ago

No. I make bone broth and freeze it in portions. I use that to make soup of left over meat, veg, beans with vermicelli. You can put that in a thermos for the road.

[–] MelonYellow@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

I mean, I’ll eat it like that if for some reason I can’t get to the microwave

[–] 843563115848z@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yes. I don't like washing bowls. Some types are better than others, of course.
