Sell it to whom? I’d rather they have to spin it back off into its own company.

Same with WhatsApp. They should never have been allowed to buy either.

I kind of expect Google and Meta to 69 each other. Google takes over Insta, Meta takes over Chrome.

[–] iii@mander.xyz 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's a terrible deal for google

[–] casmael@lemm.ee 12 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Never mind Google what about the general public

[–] iii@mander.xyz 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

What about the general public?

[–] stray@pawb.social 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The idea is to break up these corporations, not just have them trade assets.

Welcome to 'murica, where laws only apply if you're poor and/or an immigrant

[–] Sarcophagus@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

Sell it to someone who can't run it who sells it again to someone who can't run it who sells all the information to someone who owned it originally which devalues the company so it gets sold back to the people who sold it because they knew this would happen

Fucking Aquaman, that's an important part of the quote

Suddenly Mark Zuckerberg makes another’s “donation” and poof, the trial mysteriously goes away.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 2 points 3 months ago

No no no, first the trial goes away, then, for no reason at all, the judge receives a mansion as a gift from zuckyfucker. It's not bribery if it's paid after the favor!

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 42 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Nah, he'll just bribe Trump and it won't happen. I suspect that's why Zuck is getting into the manoverse. Btw, why isn't the manoverse just called a midlife crisis?

For the same reason that IS citizens moving to other countries are called expats and not migrants.

[–] onlinepersona@programming.dev 13 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

I think IS citizens are called terrorists wherever they go 😉

Anti Commercial-AI license

[–] DasAlbatross@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Did...did you fall for that old Facebook meme where if you posted something on your page they couldn't use your content?

[–] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org 2 points 3 months ago

Dammit now I can't fix the typo. Oh well, I think my point is so solid that everyone knows who I am talking about regardless :D

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 1 points 3 months ago

An expat is a temporary company transfer. A migrant is there to stay. What am I missing here?

This sparks joy

[–] HeadfullofSoup@kbin.earth 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Might become Xtagram because no way Musk let a propaganda machine like that not go to waste

[–] Telorand@reddthat.com 4 points 3 months ago

And it'll get rolled into his shitty AI ~~grift~~ company

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 16 points 3 months ago

With the current political landscape?

Not likely.

[–] tiredofsametab@fedia.io 11 points 3 months ago

It would be nice. Whilst insta has mostly supplanted twitter here in Japan for biz stuff, I still don't like meta owning it. I probably will create one (but fuck twitter) just to communicate with my customers, but I'd much rather it not belong to meta at that point. It's worth noting, I do plan on creating other accounts on federated media, but there's only so much one human with a fulltime job and a farm business can keep up with.

HAHAHA HE LOOKS LIKE THE ANGRY RAIN FROG HAHAHAHA

[–] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 4 points 3 months ago

that's so mean, no frogge deserves to be compared to that thing

[–] Parptarf@lemm.ee 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

As someone who used to love pre-reels instagram a lot. I hope this happens.

Or that Pixelfed takes off

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Pixel fed has a loooong way to go. The app is terrible.

[–] noodlejetski@lemm.ee 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

luckily you aren't forced to use the official app, like you are with Instagram. Pixelix is really good, for example.

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

I'll look into that. I wasn't aware. I'd like to like it.
