Everything to do with the USA's own Imperial Backyard. From hispanics to the originary peoples of the americas to the diasporas, South America to Central America, to the Caribbean to North America (yes, we're also there).

Post memes, art, articles, questions, anything you'd like as long as it's about Latin America. Try to tag your posts with the language used, check the tags used above for reference (and don't forget to put some lime and salt to it).

Here's a handy resource to understand some of the many, many colloquialisms we like to use across the region.

"But what about that latin american kid I've met in college who said that all the left has ever done in latin america has been bad?"

On this day in 1961, the Bay of Pigs invasion took place when a force of 1400 Cuban exiles, funded and led by the U.S., landed on the southwest coast of Cuba in a failed attempt at overthrowing the revolutionary Cuban government.

Covertly financed and directed by the U.S. government, the operation took place at the height of the Cold War and its failure led to major shifts in international relations between Cuba, the United States, and the Soviet Union.

The coup attempt came after the Cuban government expropriated property from American capitalists. U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower allocated $13.1 million to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in March 1960 for use against Castro's government. With the aid of Cuban counter-revolutionaries, the CIA proceeded to organize an invasion.

On April 14th, 1961, a squadron of U.S. B-26 bombers camouflaged with Cuban insignias begin a two-day bombing campaign of Cuban airports, destroying a large portion of the Cuban air force.

On the night of April 17th, an invasion force of approximately 1400 Cuban exiles and CIA officers landed on the beach at Playa Girón in the Bay of Pigs. After a few days, the insurgents became overwhelmed by the Cuban army. President Kennedy refused to provide air support for the operation.

The invasion's defeat solidified Castro's role as a national hero and strengthened Cuba-Soviet relations. Several Cuban exiles and two Americans were executed upon capture. Over 1,000 prisoners were exchanged for humanitarian aid from the U.S. government.

If you're going to rank a place on stabbiness, you should consider what your goal is with the stabbing. Are you trying to be a dillhole, or are you trying to kill someone. Based on the dillhole criteria obviously you'd want to go
[No]
But if your goal was quick and efficient murder you'd definitely want to go

My wr on majsoul is good enough that I could get to master eventually, but I don't have the time to play so many hands to get there. Idk if this is cope. I could get there faster if I read theory and do drills, but it's dry. Will eventually have to if/when I plateau

Got a 3 day weekend cause closed for Easter and used my bonus day to snuggle with my cat and rewatch Zeta Gundam. I haven't cut my hair in a bit and noticed if I let my hair grow out a bit more and dye the roots I will look like my profile pic

Mother is watching an episode of Agatha Raisin which seems to be saying a water company privatizing a water spring is good and the grubby protesters are hired crisis actors by a rival company. I guess some of this is gunna' get flipped at the end but it's coming off as extremely rightwing.

mandatory weekly Dr Who rant, spoilers within

"I'm scared that something bad happened in 2025."

In a desperate attempt to get Belinda back home, the Doctor has cooked up scheme of using some sorta time gizmo to manually drag the TARDIS back to 2025. This will involve him landing at random locations/time periods and turning the thing on.

The first landing place is Miami during segregation, where another one of those old god thingies is causing a mischief in a cinema.

Cue a brief sequence where our intrepid heroes get caught inside film and the worst metacommentary I've seen since Red Dwarf: Back to Earth.

What I liked:

  • Mr Ringading, odd since as a whole I deeply dislike the gods, but this one wasn't so bad. The cartoon character in the real world, while derivative, was well executed, especially close to the end as he grows increasingly creepy looking as he becomes more real. The fact that he's just out there slowly getting bigger does leave the worrying possibility that he will be back though.

What I disliked:

  • the entire scene where the Doctor meets his fans.

  • Mrs Flood, I just don't care much for this character whose entire purpose is to wink at the camera and make shitty jokes.

Overall:

I don't feel particularly strongly about this one, I didn't hate it, I'm just gonna stop thinking about it once I've hit post.

Everytime I hear krav maga getting over hyped I go back to mentally running through the stuff I learned in karate classes. Did shotokan for a couple of years when I was a teen but combo of health reasons and financial stopped at mid green belt. Now that I'm in better shape I feel I can pick up where I was but my local school closed down few years back.

Might have yaoi baited on that dream just now, even saw two shooting stars I wished on on that 'not' date. Here I thought deep down I had enough self respect not to get up to typical vtuber shenanigans and just been forth right kiryu-slam
