Hello Lemmings! For the past year or so, I've been working on a solo project, and I'm kinda close to being finished with it! It's a punk rock album, made with mostly open-source tools (the only non-FOSS stuff is a couple of plugins that didn't have good open-source alternatives)!

I've seen other folks promote their games here, but so far I haven't seen any music done this way, and I was wondering if it's maybe not allowed? Some sort of Lemmy faux pas? If it is, indeed, allowed, then what communities would be amenable to maybe a twice weekly post? Should one make their own community for this purpose? What about a general purpose community for self-promotion, i.e. "imadethis" back on the old place? As you can see, much to consider. (I don't have anything out yet, so this post in itself is not self-promotion.)

What say ye, o wise Lemmings?

some good comments here, I'd just add two things:

  • be genuine in your posts
  • don't post to lots of communities at the same time - I will ban posters if I see 3 or more posts landing on my instance

But other than than I hope to see you OC sometime

Thanks! You'd be the guy to know what communities go with which posts haha

Congratulations and good luck with your publication!

If you want to avoid conflicts maybe drop a short message to one of the mods upfront but otherwise I wouldn't worry too much! :)

Cool, yeah will do!

Post your shit, don't be excessive. If it gets deleted for self promo in one community, there's several alternatives. If it gets deleted in every community, reassess your messaging lol.

This platform requires OC to survive, or else we're just a mirror for other sites. Deleting OC because it comes from the Creator seems short-sighted, but I'm also not a mod. So, ymmv.

Yeah, fair enough, just thought I'd get a feel for the vibe before I just did the thing. It's probably gonna be at least a month before I release anything, but like I said in the post, I don't see other musicians posting their stuff here, so I just wanted to make sure it was cool.

Just came to give kudos for finishing an album, and with mostly open-source tools at that. Hope you find a receptive place to post your work!

Thanks! Yeah, me too lol, it'd be kind of a bummer to have put all this work into it and then no one listens to my tunes! Most of them are pretty good!
