Paywalled article with confusing title. The official Signal app lets you archive messages too...

Are you sure? When they say archive they probably mean exporting chats. As far as I know the official signal app does not let you do that.

Yes I'm 100% sure. The archive function operates almost identically to Whatsapp. As far as exports, I recall Signal used to allow you to export your chats (both encrypted and unencrypted IIRC) but I don't see it in the settings anymore. But to be fair I've been using it since it was still called TextSecure so maybe that function was removed a long time ago. The last time I recall exporting a Signal chat was around 2018 or so
