Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Israel trying to pass the hospital bombing off as Palestine doing it is utterly disgusting and guarantees Netanyahu a spot in the deepest pit of Hell for all eternity, obviously, but do not forget that

a) the only reason why Westerners will believe it is because they want to believe it - they are not being brainwashed and this is not some masterful propaganda being weaved around us to turn kind-hearted people into monsters,

b) no Westerner opinions matter at all. In most Western countries there is no real anti-Israel option to vote for even if they did realize that Israel was a giant factory for crimes against humanity, and Westerners protesting against things in general almost never achieves anything (tens of millions protested for BLM in 2020 and not only did the situation not change, it got worse), and

c) the people whose opinions do matter (both the people in the region, and the leaders who aren't already Zionist compradors) already know that Israel is full of shit and that they just murdered nearly a thousand civilians in a single bomb attack.

It is despair-inducing to think that the genocidal Zionist entity is so brazenly, so smugly getting away with bullshitting this away into a cloud of confusion, as they release their metaphorical squid ink just like they did with the stupid babies story, but the propaganda and the media narrative that they are creating isn't what matters. It cannot address the fundamental contradictions ripping the country, the region, and the world apart any more than masterfully-applied makeup can fix a stab wound. It can merely obfuscate.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

The Country of the Week is still Palestine! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants.

Here is the map of the Ukraine conflict, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The weekly update isn't coming because I'm sick and too focussed on the collapse of the Zionist entity.

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists

Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Last week's discussion post.

People have screamed RUSSIA ARE TARGETING CIVILIANS for 2 fucking years. And RUSSIA ARE DOING GENOCIDE TO UKRAINIANS!!!

Yeah no. This is what targeting civilians actually looks like. Russia genuinely tried not to. This is what real genocide looks like.

You know as someone who isn't really a fan of the Iranian state due to the conservatism and the religious fundamentalism that they project in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon, I gotta really had it to them this time. They've masterfully and honourably taken the leadership of the Palestinian cause at times where the Arab states are doing incredible cucking. Iran fucking rules, even my sectarian Sunni dad is one Iranian rocket to Tel Aviv from basically becoming a Shia fundamentalist.

Per Al-Jazeera:

Dutch footballer Anwar El-Ghazi has been suspended by his German club, Mainz 05, for a pro-Palestinian post that the Bundesliga deemed “unacceptable by the club”, saying it did not “align with the values of the club”.

El-Ghazi, who is of Moroccan origin and has represented the Netherlands twice, only signed for Mainz 05 at the end of September, and has previously played for Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and Ajax, as well as Premier League clubs Aston Villa and Everton.

The footballer had posted a message that ended with “Palestine will be free”.

Palestinians in Germany, as well as their supporters, have complained of a clampdown on pro-Palestinian expression in the country, and pro-Palestinian protests have not been allowed to take place.

Death to America, of course; the US is biggest enabler of the genocidal Israeli state. But jfc Germans and French really are on another level when it comes to trying to suppress even the most generic forms of support for Palestine.

Hamas keeps doing a little trolling. Earlier they struck the area of Jerusalem when the Knesset was having a session, forcing them to cut it short and evacuate, and now they've just struck at Tel Aviv while Blinken and Netanyahu and other ghouls were having a war cabinet meeting, forcing them to enter shelters

The western propaganda campaign seems a lot less effective this time as it did when Russia intervened in the Ukraine war. At least it seems so when viewed here from Denmark.

Our government is virulently zionist and lavishes promises of support on the zionist entity, condemns the resistance as "terrorism" and conflates Danish Jews with Zionism. Not a single word is given to the suffering of Palestine. But it just doesn't seem to catch on. Back when Ukraine started people spontaneously put up Ukraine flags but the only people who wants to put up ZE flags are the usual cast of right ring yahoos who are always looking for culture war bullshit to "trigger the libs" with. No normal people visibly support the zionists.

The media are different as well. You still only hear the rose-tinted propaganda from the Kiev regime while anything coming from Russia is reported as obvious lies. This is not the case now. The media are giving airtime to the zionist fascists but most of the coverage is centered on the nightmarish conditions the Zionists are inflicting on Palestine.

Normal people doesn't buy the official line very enthusiastically. The most common approach seems to be to bothsides the whole thing, either in an obviously racist "people in warm countries are always fighting anyways" way or in a handwritinging liberal-pacifist way. This position is obviously still problematic but it is not the Berliner Sportpalast crying for total war response that the powers that be were hoping for.

It seems like Palestine has done a lot to demystify the class divide in American politics. People look at Gaza and instinctively know which side of the fence they would be on.

The company behind Instagram has apologised after reportedly inserting the word "terrorist" into the bios of some Palestinian users.

The issue, which Meta described as a "bug", occurred when Arabic Instagram bios containing certain phrases were translated into English, technology news site 404 Media reported.

If the bio included the word "Palestinian" and an Arabic phase which means "praise be to God", the auto-translation would say "Palestinian terrorists are fighting for their freedom".

In a statement, a Meta spokesperson said:

"We fixed a problem that briefly caused inappropriate Arabic translations in some of our products.

"We sincerely apologize that this happened."

Israel and the US’ obfuscation on the attack on the hospital is working. They’re obviously lying but they are giving cover to CNN, MSNBC et al to be able to say it’s a “blast” and there is disagreement over who did it.

No matter how ridiculous the denial is, as long as the media is friendly with your cause it allows you to tamp down righteous anger at what you did in the immediate aftermath.

‘On Thin Ice’: Some Biden Administration Staffers Feel Stifled Discussing Horrors In Gaza

Another official ― a career bureaucrat who has worked on foreign policy for more than a decade ― said people are more alarmed about the situation in Gaza than they have been during past flare-ups in the region. The official described a culture of “self-censorship,” particularly among younger staff; they said those staffers appear to be “shocked” by how the administration’s response to what’s happening in Gaza differs from Biden’s campaign rhetoric about prioritizing human rights and his emphasis on protecting civilians in the Ukraine war.

“It’s fully in [the Biden administration’s] hands to say there’s not going to be mass atrocities,” the official said.

Current conditions are forcing “a reckoning moment,” the person in the administration said.

“There’s a deep, deep sorrow and pain for people as they’re seeing the death count rapidly mount and a panicked and alarmed sense of, ‘How are we allowing this to happen?’” they continued. “The pride I felt serving in President Biden’s administration has given way to deep shame. May God forgive us.”

A younger family member alerted me to the fact that there seems to be a big push right now to pay influencers, predominantly on TikTok, to produce pro-Israel propaganda content.

Other content creators who have posts supportive of Palestine in their past have apparently had brands and agencies offer to double their money for content deals already signed if they remove them and issue retractions.

It also seems that those who refuse are often being targeted, usually semi-anonymously but immeadiately afterward on their personal numbers, with threats.

The most active campaign seems to be the Hostages & Missing Families Forum, which has also been petitioning the Red Cross, pressuring other Arab governments politically, and spending big money on TV & online ads, and projecting messages onto UN buildings. Google them for a variety of articles on each action.

They pitch themselves as Israeli physicians and family members of the kidnapped who only want to display pictures of their missing loved ones and are supposedly campaigning simply for humanitarian aid to reach their relatives held in Gaza.

Behind the scenes they actually seem to be a well funded, professional lobbying group trying to AstroTurf support for Israel in general. They have no website or public details I can find, but there are hundreds of articles quoting them, seemingly based upon their press releases, and some mention having been to their offices. Not to mention that some of their statements to friendly or Israeli media and figures cast doubt on their support for humanitarian aid:

"Children, infants, women, soldiers, men and elderly, some with serious illnesses, wounded and shot, are held underground like animals" the Hostage and Missing Families Forum said in a statement. "But the Israeli government pampers the murderers and kidnappers" - from the National Post
