A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Just make fun of Russia or laugh at them and call them a bot for saying "zionist" too much. They will ban you from hexbear, then you block them and never have to hear from them again.
Yes, you could skip the first step ... but where is the fun in that?
I kind of like seeing the posts tho, but the commenter are so hostile. like, is there a button to block the commenters but not the instance? that would be a nice feature to implement :D
Virtually any time I get viciously attacked by someone on Lemmy it's almost exclusively someone from either Hexbear, Lemmygrad, blahaj or infosec.
Infosec, really? I haven't noticed that trend. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention to the user's instance enough. I absolutely did notice the others you mentioned, though, but that may be because there are more bad eggs than good in those places lol
I haven't seen any extreme comments coming from infosec either.
I don't remember having issues with anyone from there for a while but there was a time that there was several of them over a short period of time.
Later last year, I did notice an uptick in Lemmy hostility, across the board. It's calmed down significantly, though, around January of this year or so. Now, I don't know about the instances that my home instance blocks (hexbear being among them, thankfully). I've generally had good experiences with infosec users in the past, which is why I moved instances to here. Sorry that hasn't been your experience; people can be assholes.
I've noticed that Lemmy and other alternative platforms tend to harbor extremes.
Still better than the typical crap you see on reddit. I hate to say it, but the influx of normal/trashy people is worse than the bots. Gimme someone with enough independent thought to consider themselves a third wave communist or whatever.
I imagine most people here are Reddit refugees, and I guess being that principled could be seen as a kind of extremism in itself. I don’t really consider myself the most non-confrontational person either.
I mean, blahaj are understandably defensive; it's a mostly gender fluid/trans instance and they are very much under the microscope right now. I give my trans buddies more leeway to be angry right now, they are going through a lot, and I assume the strangers on blahaj feel the same. It might be directionless anger sometimes, but that comes out when you are constantly under stress. But yeah, I understand what you are saying <3
I've seen the db0 admins getting a little power trippy. Like instance ban for a conversation in a community on a different instance. Following all rules and being respectful the entire time. Im happy to respect the db0 rules and fedi sovereignty on their instance. I don't think instance bans for off instance activities is right.

hexbearians generally hate vaush, in my experience
I don't love or watch hasan, but he cannot be as bad as voosh, surely? Like if you need to watch a big streamer, I'd see a hasan fan as someone with good intentions, but I'd be wary of a vaush fan; anything in the destiny orbit has stage 4 debatebro cancer.

I occasionally watch both vaush and hasan segments on youtube, along with many other lefitst youtubers.
vaush doesn't do debates anymore, hasn't done one in... over a year at this point, almost two years?
I've heard him explain a few times now that debating anybody with hardcore right wing views is less than unproductive at this point, as none of those people are any kind of capable of arguing in good faith, thus all you're doing is platforming them.
also vaush is routinely quite critical of authoritarian regimes.
hasan, on the other hand, yeah, i agree, he has (at least initially? not sure if his stance has changed since) defended the russian occupation of crimea, he has platformed people that go waaay beyond being just anti-zionist and go all the way into general antisemitism, basically played defense for the Chinese government's actions against uyghurs...
he's much closer to a tankie, and tankies are what hexbear has a whole lot of, those are the rabid posters and mods you stereotypically get there.
So... I am confused as to how you would say hexbear loves both vaush and hasan, when ... rabid hexbears basically are tankies... and would generally agree with hasan (or think he doesn't go far enough), and despise vaush.

Sorry to bother you again, but I'm curious - what's hasans hardon for authoritarian regimes? I'd like to know, I don't want to advocate for that just because I'm not familiar. If you dont have time that's fine, but I thought it would be best to ask instead of staying ignorant. :D
him calling the Uyghur concentration camps "reeducation camps". also getting his news from Russian sources, like when he defended the Russia annexing Crimea.
