Meta? More like "Meta mis juevos en tu boca!"

Edit: Directed towards zucc, of course.

Is calling it Twitter is deadnaming?

Maybe we should tell this pervert of Mr Musk we call it Twitter as long he is referring to his daughter by her penis.

Companies didn't rename themselves. Rich CEOs renamed them against their will.

CEO: I am the Senate

If shareholders didn't do anything to stop it, then this is their will.

But given that it's a stupid decision, I've elected to ignore it.

(I'm not editing my brain-dictionary for something so stupid)

A lot of these aren't technically dead-names. They're parent corporations that exist to shuffle around profits and minimize tax and regulatory liabilities. Facebook and Google both continue to exist as properties owned by Meta and Alphabet.

I think its mostly a PR thing

AOL-Time-Warner.

Obligatory fuck Twitter

[–] Jourei@lemm.ee 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I think we should call it x. Twitter was this pioneering microblogging site. X is an extremist echo chamber that was created in 2023.

Funny thing is Twitter was cesspool even before Musk got his hands on it. I was actually impressed he managed to make it significantly worse.

twitter 2012-2015 was peak. ironically youtube 2012-2015 was peak.

basically dan and phil, grace, hannah, mamrie, and tyler oakley are the reason for the success of youtube and twitter not good and twitter.

[–] Jourei@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

It sure was, I'm willing to let that fact get buried so the contrast appears sharper, let time gild twitter.

That's why people call xitter which is comfortably close to shitter.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago

Something about xitter also has this sophomoric zit acne feel. And the name is weird, too.

[–] ajmaxwell@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago

Chiquita Brands International? Nah United Fruit Company? Bingo

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Deadnaming regions (using their indigenous names instead of colonial names)

Oh fuck, this is gonna be so challenging...

Does this mean we use Transliterations instead of Translations for country names?

[–] Lyra_Lycan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The only difference being Meta and Alphabet are the names of parent companies that Facebook and Google created to own themselves

[–] CidVicious@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The Meta rebrand was definitely about escaping baggage associated with the name Facebook. Alphabet you're right about though.

[–] ApollosArrow@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

They also wanted to own VR and rebrand it as meta. I don’t think that moved worked out for them.

[–] hildegarde@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'll call it x once he sells the domain. Sell it you coward.

[–] user_name@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

He did sell it…to himself. His AI company bought it.

[–] pezhore@infosec.pub 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It will always, always be Monsanto.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Bought by Bayer and quietly dropped

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

Corporations are living like it's 1930.

Just change your name and the past goes away.

That one has quite a few more steps, AT&T had to re-acquire Southern Bell>Bellsouth, Southwestern Bell, MCI, and a bunch of other subordinate companies to resurrect the reality of Ma’Bell

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Yep, iirc Cingular was the last nail to be removed from the coffin, and that happened over a decade ago.

[–] ragebutt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

does this mean you still call the bottle of high fructose corn syrup and caramel coloring aunt jemima

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

You can't take her from me, growing up she was the only person who every looked at me with kindness

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

I thought this was about Blackwater, you know, the company that massacred unarmed civilians for shits and giggles
