Tridi 23 Prairial an 233 de la Révolution, jour de Chèvrefeuille

Since it is the day of honeysuckle, I chose to try Rose de Pushkar. The owner of Le Père Lucien claims it is his favorite scent (the fact that his wife developed it might be not unrelated), and it is one of his best selling ones. It is very rose-dominant – expectedly – and I like it, even though I don't love it (yet). It is in the same line as Narcisse, so I expected the bases to be similar, but this one is much softer than Narcisse.

I heavily overloaded and could have shaved the cat with the remaining soap. It was always my dream to upgrade her to a sphinx cat, but my wife for some reason doesn't like them, even though they are clearly and objectively the best breed of cats.

This TI has the exact same shape as the new one. But it is much lighter, and also feels different. I don't know whether this is only due to the scales, or whether the steel is different, or whether the edge is different – in any case, both are good!

Have a good night!

I support you shaving your cat. Though I can’t imagine a more difficult thing to do with a cat.

June 11th, 2025: Wildcard Wednesday

  • Brush: AP Shave Co. - Black Butterscotch w/ AP Pure Bliss Synthetic
  • Razor: Schick - Injector
  • Blade: Schick Yellow
  • Lather: Catie's Bubbles - Tonsorial Parlour - Soap
  • Post Shave: Catie's Bubbles - Tonsorial Parlour - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Catie's Bubbles - Crangère - EdP

Daily Theme: I used Catie's Bubbles Tonsorial Parlour Luxury Shave Soap. A true dickhole shave with a truly niche artisan and scent!!! I decided to stay up late because I don't feel like shaving with tax exempt red diesel or my own semen. Maybe a mix of both I would consider, but its not "It's Alive!" day yet.

Daily Challenge: Compared to last year, my den has grown a substantial amount. Here is a picture of my dedicated shelf of shave wares and then a spread pic of almost everything I have. I missed a few brushes, a razor, and some other clutter I am surely forgetting. The dopp kit to the left is my bag full of samples and smushes, but I didn't feel like dumping it out. We all know what kinda black hole our smush and sample containers look like.

  • Brush: Wild West Brushworks Blue Space 26mm Cashmere
  • Razor: Karve Christopher Bradley Aluminum (setting: C Plate)
  • Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (3)
  • Lather: E&S Rasage - Azur - Soap
  • Post Shave: E&S Rasage - Azur - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Thayers - Coconut - Toner

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I used to really dislike the weight of this razor. Today it did not bother me at all. Today I'm using a soap brand that I've not seen anyone else use here, but I bet @PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social knows of it.

[–] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Yup, I have one full tub in the form of Shaman and got several samples a few years ago. The samples weren't that impressive in terms of lather, but Shaman seems to be a new/improved recipe for the base and once you get a good lather going (you really need to load heavy, it's oily) it's great stuff. Barber and Solstice are IMHO also really great scents, also available as bar soaps.

I know that it exists, never tried it 🤷

June 11th, 2025: Viking

  • Brush: Wolf Whiskers - "Gianmaria" w/Maggard 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Fatip Classic Testina Gentile - Chrome
  • Blade: Personna P74 (85)
  • Lather: Viking Shaving Soap - Norway - Soap
  • Post Shave: Summer Break Soaps - Wood Shop - Aftershave

Viking Shaving Soap Company is not a good company. I only have it because it was included in a lot, and I like the scent enough to not throw it away. I had another scent by them (Denmark) which I did throw in the garbage.

I don't know if Viking is still around (different than the Viking you'd find on Amazon, by the way), but he used to make brush handles too. And guess what... he was on the bad list for copying other companies like Declaration Grooming.

Anyway, decent shave. The lather isn't anything to write home about, but it was slick. This blade is awesome.

  • Brush: Summer Break Soaps "Elyria" - TurnNShave v9 Tip 28mm Badger
  • Razor: Yates Precision Manufacturing - 921-M
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (1)
  • Lather: Elysian - Green Fig - Soap
  • Post Shave: Catie’s Bubbles - DFTR - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Stirling - Glacial Unscented - Balm
  • Fragrance: Chanel - Égoïste - EdT

Theme justification: First in with Elysian. Thanks to u/socialkittielynx for the smush! I enjoy this base, and the scent is a smooth, comforting, and not-too-sweet fig.

Daily challenge: Our apartment building was built in ~1915, and our actual apartment is quite small. In the bathroom, we have one of those old school standalone medicine cabinets with a mirror. It's kind of a bummer for shaving, since the sink is against another wall on the other side of that door.

On top of this is where I store my brushes (1 2). My DE/SE razor collection fits inside the cabinet (for now!). Most of my soaps and aftershaves are stored in one of those hanging shoe racks on the back of our bathroom door. Usually, there's a towel hanging there. I've also taken over the bottom shelf of another bathroom cabinet with fragrances and a bit of overflow.

Blade bank and hanging strop both live in the bathroom as well.

I have one box of samples, one with cheap soap and blades, and a stack of overflow samples/smushes on my desk -- which I should have tidied but didn't. Here's one of my assistants criticizing the desk situation.

Last but not least, we have extra storage for razor/brush boxes and my Moarteen (only straight razor so far). The boxes are here because I don't have space elsewhere, and the razor I want to keep as dry as possible.

$FOF - Green Fig and DFTR both lean into the sweet green fig with hints of tobacco, musk, and woods. Egoiste then carries this sweetness into a warm, rich, and spicy glow. Mandarin, hints of rose, cinnamon, sandalwood, and just a touch of vanilla. Easily one of my favorite fragrances, and it played wonderfully with the soap and splash.

$SELFCARE - I had been considering shaving today with: bacon grease, Pepto Bismol, fertility lubricant, and egg whites. While I was trying to decide what to do yesterday, I realized that I didn't want to rub any of that shit on my face. Instead, I choose to use something that I enjoy, because I would rather take care of myself.

Here’s one of my assistants criticizing the desk situation.

You have several of those? My cat obviously is assisted by me, and not the other way round.

[–] snooting@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

We have three!

And yes, they are all assisted by us, but you'd think it was the other way round based on their behavior.

[–] DaveWave94@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

At first I thought you have the greatest view ever from your desk before I realised it was a Dell monitor in full screen view 😂

Ngl, I like seeing other folks' creative solutions to the space problem a collectionist hobby inevitably brings with it 👍🏻

[–] snooting@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 18 hours ago

I do have a rather nice view from my desk when it's clear outside and that window shade is drawn. I get a nice view of the Berkeley hills. :)

We do what we can. I'd love to have more storage space...

Wildcard Wednesday: Day 11 of Lather Games

  • Brush: Zenith r/Wetshaving exclusive MOAR BOAR (31 mm × 57 mm bleached boar)
  • Razor: Böker – 14er (8/8", extra hollow, carbon steel, square point)
  • Lather: Smitten Soapery – Hipster
  • Post Shave: Chatillon Lux – Pure Lavender
  • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original

Theme justification: Nobody has posted this brand yet. I wonder if people know its new name...

The red thread through this shave is lavender. From blended in hipster (with patchouli and orange), prominent and aromatic in Pure Lavender, to in a supporting role in The Glorious Old Man Stank. Lavender is a relaxing start into the day of chaos. All hail chaos!
