Its so weird that these people have to figure out if they will fuck something in 5 seconds and if not those people shouldnt be alive. Fucking gross. You need to get help.

>I asked her

This dude set his ChatGPT's voice to feminine and I don't think it's because he simply likes women's voices more

Objectifying a fake woman with another fake person. Fun.

Seriously, the loneliness here is mind boggling

I think I'm starting to understand the gamergate dudes. They had, in videogames the ultimate trad setup. Women were on display, available for use, and existed for their approval. Much like a powerful man from a bygone era would have enjoyed in real life.

That's what "they took from us". A pathetic virtual chauvinistic paradise. It was sadder than I thought.

Except this hasn’t been taken from them at all. There is no shortage of games that still offer this “experience”. Probably more than ever.

What makes it even sadder is that these idiots are unable to see past the handful of ultra-hyped games currently being pumped by the “AAA” industry. They’re just sheep, going where they’re told, and then bleating because they don’t like the grass in this new paddock.

They think they're the gatekeepers and the tastemakers. They think a multi-billion dollar industry exsts for them and because of them, and they feel that anything that isn't made specifically for them is a direct insult.

They don't care that there's a million games catering to them out there. What matters is that there's one that doesn't.

No, it was actually just about games journalism. Gamergate died when games journalism died (with the rise of streams and lets plays on YouTube).

Gamergate people always say this but I've never seen their actual complaints about games journalism. I did see them getting pissy about people like Anita Sarkeesian discussing feminism in games, though.

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

The complaint was that games journalism as an industry was unethical due to the unaccountably cozy relationships between game journalists and the industry they cover. Jeff Gerstmann is notable for losing his job (years earlier) due to his refusal to inflate a review score for the game Kane & Lynch.

Those legitimate complaints fell by the wayside when right wing commentators began their harassment campaigns against Sarkeesian and Quinn. The discussion turned into a culture war, much to the benefit of game publishers who wanted the spotlight off their quid pro quo relationships with game review sites. Ultimately, the rise of streaming and lets play content democratized game journalism, making the whole thing a moot issue.

Game development itself has also opened up more than ever before, with countless independent developers catering to gamers with every interest. Multiplayer games likely still have issues with toxicity towards women over voice chat, but I haven’t played a multiplayer game in over a decade so I don’t know the extent of that issue.

Fair enough I suppose. Shame the right wingers co-opted it.

[–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 11 hours ago

I've seen the complains but they never made a lot of sense. It was obvious what it was really about.

Exhibit #37363 that G*mers have never seen a woman from closer than 6 ft away.

[–] HorreC@lemmy.world 5 points 8 hours ago

Thats not true they asked ChatGPT and they said it counted to be within a meter when they chat!
