All the mainstream media is reporting 250,000 because some trump official Xcreated that. Maybe if you include the No Kings protests going on around the parade it's 250k

[–] SereneSadie@lemmy.myserv.one 15 points 1 day ago

My opinion of SBS sunk further when they put 'huge' in the title of their article about it.

[–] Sciaphobia@sh.itjust.works 40 points 1 day ago

Doesn't matter. Hell just lie and say 800 million people attended.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 32 points 1 day ago (7 children)

Is that for people in the parade? Or forced to watch it in person?

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 day ago (4 children)

They advertised for seat fillers, so a lot of those people were literally paid to be there.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

More likely they were promised payment, but have yet to collect.

Yes. The thing was to showcase 250 years of American Army, not modern shit.

[–] twice_hatch@midwest.social 4 points 1 day ago

I would have loved it for historical interest if anyone else was President :(

Q: Is that a WWII tank?

A: Sure, man.

Q: Cool, what kind of tank is it?

A: Sure, man.

Q: Um, I'm just trying to find out what kind of tank it is.

A: And I'm telling you. Sure, man.

No, it's an American one. The Firefly was a British variant.

British are always too cramped in their turrets, Irish too (Stephen Daedalus being a prime example).

Apparently they had to rent them from movie prop houses.

Not sure I believe that number. But hell, I can't estimate crowds to save my life. At one point I was in the largest rock concert of all time, still have no clue.

All I can say is the one I went to easily had 2,000. And that's in the reddest part of Florida, and only 1 of 2 protests in Pensacola.

So 8 highschools. That's pretty good. A well known Mexican Pueblo doesn't even match that by at least 5 or 6 more people for Sunday church.

[–] EtnaAtsume@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

WHAT 9000??

THERE'S NO WAY THAT CAN BE RIGHT

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

My highschool was more than 2000 people. And it was so new that our first semester was on two different campuses and they were still building int around us for another two years when we did move in.

Now I live in a very different area. The localist mega church gets 17,000+ butts in seats each week.

8500 people is less than normal tourism on a Saturday for DC. It was actually a net negative for attendance over just a normal day.

[–] Uranus_Hz@lemm.ee 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Four public high schools in my city and their combined attendance is over 9000
