G Gundam. I don't remember shit about it besides it being some kind of glorified tournament arc, the Japanese protagonists cockpit being wild looking to me, and one of the episodes with the American Gundam having some women sing "America the beautiful" while the u.s pilot was getting his ass beat I think.

Skull Gundam is built like John Fetterman lmao

Tequila Gundam genuinely looks badass, love those colors.

[–] Meh@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

Every day I hope for a Master Grade Tequila Gundam kit

I like how the further away from Japan you get, the more unhinged the gundam design becomes.

Also a fucking windmill bruh

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah yes Nether Gundam, a fan favorite and often memed when it comes to G Gundam. But I'm gonna be different and be Mermaid Gundam since it's a robot in a fish suit.

I think Cuba got done over dirty, they had an opportunity to call the Gundam a "Barbudos Gundam" and give it a freaking AK or a giant cigar club or some shit.

The American Gundam should be much wider, have a hamburger shield and......if a war crime could have a form as a weapon, what would that weapon look like? (struggling to think how you'd make a sword looking thing out of agent orange or an attack on a wedding) Maybe a sharp chunk out of a destroyed hospital?

I love they called the mexican one tequila gundam

u.s pilot was getting his ass beat I think.

Chibodee was having clown-induced PTSD flashbacks, actually. The original Japanese voiceover has a pretty normal song, the English one just wild with the replacement song.

For a father's day anime recommendation (the ending card has a dedication to fathers and children everywhere lol), I'd add the director of G Gundam (Yasuhiro Imagawa)'s pet OVA project - Giant Robo: the Day the Earth Stood still. It's equally wild - it's a manga adaptation that smashes in a bunch of characters from unrelated Mitsuteru Yokoyama manga plus it has the awesome "mech starts crying" thing that also happens in G Gundam.

I forgot to add this...

Allenby's suit up and sync up with Nobel Gundam added some Sailor Moon to the DBZ + Gundam mix. https://youtu.be/8Nj9r9qZgq4

Oh God, the ending. You reminded me of the ending, how the two main characters took out the evil mecha.

I stopped watching Gundam anime - hell, any mecha animes - after that ending.

[–] ChestRockwell@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

Because it's the GOAT? It will never be topped, after all.

Sekiha love love tenkyouken is so great. Even GIGA DRILL BREAKER is not quite as amazing in terms of super robots.

No, and the scene afterwards that ended the anime was the cheesiest, most disappointing shit I had ever witnessed.

Mind you, I was 24-25 when G Gundam aired on Toonami, so maybe I took it too seriously. This series was basically Gundam mashed up with Dragon Ball Z, so a certain amount of cheese should have been expected.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I clicked the link but no one's really explaining what happened; I'm not a Gundam guy at all so I've no idea who any of the characters are, but how was the villain defeated?

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

but how was the villain defeated?

With the power of love and the god gundam.

[–] OptimusSubprime@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This scene is basically at the end of the series, so obviously spoiler alert.

Thanks

Hmm....at first I thought 'well the cheese isn't SO bad; I've seen this before....', but then the love-love thing and my face nearly broke I was cringing so bad

Although on the upside I do appreciate the evil gundam being an actual monstrous creature

[–] OptimusSubprime@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

The horse though...

The horse had its own Gundam and was used to ride off into the sunset. cringe

You have to keep in mind that he was borderline ignoring this girl for the whole series to go play karate with his friends while she took care of keeping everything running.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Some of the stuff he said was definitely deep (I got the impression that he was mentioning they were being raised as soldiers and never got the chance to be human beings), but I've never watched the show so I don't really know their histories

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

The show does some interesting stuff*, but at the end of the day it's more of a super silly robots doing karate thing. It's still super compelling in a weird way, though

*It's the first alternate universe Gundam show (from 1994), and manages to recontextualize the themes of the original Tomino Gundam shows/movies with a soft power competition in an "end of history" world that still manages to impoverish smaller nations, consolidate power in international-community-1international-community-2, and crush the working class of the Earth sphere.

I loved G-Gundam when I was younger. I wish I could find my old toys, I have most of these motherfuckers.

Also does anyone else thing Gundam Rose looks more Spanish than French? It kind of has the matador cape and the matador-looking hat shape.

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago

Also it's incredibly funny that the English Gundam looks more Russian than the Russian Gundam this shit is so silly

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

I could not take the whole "Shiniiiiiiiiing Fingeeeeer!" super attack seriously enough to watch this one. Especially after Gundam Wing and 8th. MS Team. Master Gundam is peak design, though.
