Ughhhhhhh. So many of my posts from the end of my highschool years are so cringe. Like, big important events worthy of celebrating like winning state championships. "WE OWNT THEMZ". 😭

So it's just a regular house?

(I have never posted anything to Facebook)

Then each room contains information about you from 2009 that Facebook collected in 2009. Which is honestly scarier I think.

Unless it collected data without even having a Facebook account, it's still an empty house.

I was a MySpace and LiveJournal user until about 2003. At which point I moved to Digg, and then was on Reddit from 2007 until I came to Lemmy.

All my friends thought Facebook was lame. Mark didn't even auto add you as a friend like Tom. 😔

Unless it collected data without even having a Facebook account,

I don't know when they started but yes they do that.

A "shadow profile" refers to the data Facebook collects about individuals without their explicit permission. For example, the "like" button that appears on third-party websites allows the company to collect information about an individual's internet browsing habits, even if the individual is not a Facebook user.

I deleted all mine but the funny thing is back then they were all posts on people's walls. You used to go to their wall and write something then they would come to yours to reply like a really bad chat UI.

If you went back to 2009 my posts would all be "That's so true lol" or "Thursday at 7?" And make no sense out of that original context.

Yeah Facebook was vastly different back in the day. Instead of having a shadowy algorithm deciding which posts to show you, you just got a chronological view of all your friends' posts. So during major events, you'd usually see lots of posts that taken out of context make absolutely no sense.

When Facebook moved to them deciding what you wanted to see, it completely changed the whole vibe.

I miss the cat videos.

Now it’s all suggested posts about things I am interested in but with a not-so-subtle culture war slant.

Of course! Wall posting was a thing. Also poke wars...

[–] dumples@midwest.social 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Why didn't you poke me back?

[–] LadyButterfly@lazysoci.al 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

You kept ignoring my farmville requests

I threw a sheep at you man. I threw a sheep.

This is basically how Wikipedia users communicate still.

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 15 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I have never had a Facebook account

[–] davidgro@lemmy.world 10 points 19 hours ago

Then it would be even spookier!

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

In my case that'd be a small, mostly empty house with very few rooms.
