Perhaps if Europe claims to care about human rights so much, they should simply stop funding, supporting or otherwise enabling a genocidal state?

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 50 points 1 year ago

Sorry fam, best we can do is let Israel into Eurovision.

You mean Hamas, right?

[–] Gerula@lemmy.world 54 points 1 year ago (3 children)

So, all those more or less rich mulsim countries in the area they better spent billions on stupid megalomaniac construction projects in the desert, on weapons production and war mongering but they can't take in as refugees the very people they are encouraging and arming to fight. And all of that because Israel is wrong in what they are doing. Did I miss anything?

[–] zerfuffle@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Do you understand the sheer scale of a million refugees? That these refugees will never be allowed back?

[–] JohnEdwa@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

A sixth of the current Ukranian refugees, I believe.

[–] mlg@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, the fact that their militaries are equally as useless without US bases lol.

Living example: Yemen

Sometimes I wish the USA would leave just so I can watch Iran and KSA kick each other in the crotch, and then get promptly invaded by Yemen.

[–] SaakoPaahtaa@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

This. USA guarantees and actively manufactures to the best of her capabilities peace around the world. Despite what commies may have you believe

Letting them in means letting Hamas in, means destabilising your country and government which can lead to governments being overthrown, kings assassinated etc... Which has happened before.

They just don't want to get involved in a war that can be easily solved with the two state solution, instead of spilling over in the region, right when they're doing better. Also, you know why would they, when Israel is screaming for making a parking lot from Gaza, instead of letting civilians live there. They know those refugees will never go back. So, would you give up a piece of your country for them?

Aside from that, let's not forget that those countries already have accepted millions of refugees from the wars in the past decades and while Europe took in only a fraction of that (although most Europeans think they took in much more).

So, there's that.

[–] fred@lemmy.ml 41 points 1 year ago

Allowing Gazans to be made into refugees (again) is participating in the ethnic cleansing of Palestine.

[–] FaizalR@kbin.social 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Israel will be happy if they move.

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 37 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yeah let's not just pretend this is an easy issue. These people can permanently give up their home and and become permanent residents in whatever country they flee to just because Israel would never let them back in.

And 1million is a lot of people to calm down and care for after their houses were bombed to rubble so the crater marked earth could be turned into a night club for tourists to the worlds largest open museum.

Egypt isn't wrong to say this is an impossible choice to make. Especially while no one can punish the bullies. Heck no one can even disagree with the bully anymore. They may be hypocrites but doesn't mean their isn't truth in it.

[–] mlg@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

this also implies that Egypt, or rather their current government does not care about human rights so much.

I will find every reason to hate on sisi lmao

[–] nooneescapesthelaw@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

I mean.... This is a known fact. This is what tipped these idiots off

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

There's a lot of Europe in Europe.

The ones that should be taking in refugees are the very same who very openly went to lick Netanyahu's arse in Israel whilst he was having his people kill children by the 1000s in Gaza: Mr Sunak, Monsieur Macron and Herr Scholz.

[–] A1kmm@lemmy.amxl.com 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Israel should take in the refugees they created, and offer them citizenship, if they are serious about this not being a genocide and only being about Hamas. It is, after all, their ancestral land.

I suspect the far-right parties like Netanyahu's Likud would never let this happen though. Netanyahu is probably quite happy Hamas committed their atrocities to give him cover for more of his own atrocities.

[–] library_napper@monyet.cc 9 points 1 year ago

Nah, Israleis should give them their homes back (Right to Return) and leave

[–] DigitalTraveler42@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago (3 children)

What a dickhead response, real humanitarian right there.

[–] mkultrawide@hexbear.net 50 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Actually it's the correct response. If Europe thinks Palestinians should leave Gaza that much, they should be willing to shelter a significant number of them, instead of sending them to languish in the Sinai Desert. Europe has more resources to deal with this than Egypt does.

[–] Blizzard@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If Europe thinks Palestinians should leave Gaza

???

[–] explodicle@local106.com 4 points 1 year ago

Did you read the article?

[–] DieguiTux8623@feddit.it -2 points 1 year ago

I would like to see that happen. Wonder what party those refugees will vote after getting citizenship. Unfortunately they won't be enough to make European politics shift an inch.

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wait till you see the euro response

[–] Emanuel 27 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And intentionally sinking refugee ships

[–] Emanuel 5 points 1 year ago

that's the prayers part, silly

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

A bloc with per Capita GDP of $45k telling a country with a per Capita GDP of $9k that it needs to be more generous in helping refugees is pretty fucking rich.

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

That old movie clip about "We're sending you to Detroit" but about Europe

[–] yoz@aussie.zone 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] Opafi@feddit.de 20 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That's just a dumb take... Europe took up over for million refugees from Ukraine. Because it's the neighbouring countries that should help first and foremost. Kind of like what Egypt could do now... But instead they're crying that the EU half a continent away should take care of it.

[–] nooneescapesthelaw@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Egypt already has syrian refugees and subsaharan refugees in addition to the recent influx because of the sudanese civil war.

Either way, the current regime violently overthrew, imprisoned, tortured and eventually killed the democratically elected previous regime which has ties and many many sympathizers in Gaza. Meaning that the cocksucking son of a removed sisi will never let them in, because he's afraid of another revolution

Plus leaked talks from Mubarak (two egyptian presidents ago) literally have bibi pointing at gaza and saying i want to move them elsewhere and pointed at sinai. If Palestinians go to sinai they are never coming home.

Not to mention that ISIS is in sinai....

[–] Catfish@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 year ago

They took them because they were white. Not whatever honorable shit they sold you. If Europe was invested in doing the right thing they would take responsibility for all the citizens they displaced.
