Fair winds and following seas.

I was going to make this but put sunaurus's mustache in there somewhere. Anyway, thanks for being my first!

[–] WrenFeathers@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago

This meme format will always make me sad.

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 35 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

The first tragedy of Lemmy

[–] Hubi@feddit.org 2 points 12 minutes ago

The first tragedy was feddit.de dying after the admin got disappeared in North Korea

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 14 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

If you count kbin as Lemmy then I think that counts. Head dev ran into health problems.

[–] Lemmee@sh.itjust.works 1 points 53 minutes ago

I went for sh.itjust.works

Seems okay for now. Just remember to export your settings. Then you can easily try a few other instances.

[–] whelk@retrolemmy.com 20 points 8 hours ago

Lemm.ee made me feel welcome and cozy in this new experience that was Lemmy. Admins and users I frequently noticed were chill and seemed to be overall decent folk. Appreciate everyone that made that instance what it was, thank you all and see you around on/from other instances.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I feel like I have to comment to every lemm.ee user i see because they'll be gone soon

[–] Tyoda@lemm.ee 3 points 5 hours ago

will you remember me once I'm gone?

[–] fed0sine@lemm.ee 11 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (3 children)

it was a good run.

i was initially drawn to it because of the "ee" reminding me of ee cummings, the poet.

i love science and such so i've drifted on over to mander.xyz

reading through this thread it is newly apparent that all posts and comments will be deleted. :(

see you space cowboy

[–] Hubi@feddit.org 1 points 10 minutes ago

Posts and comments will continue to exist on the instances that were federated with lemm.ee

[–] tfm@europe.pub 15 points 7 hours ago

reading through this thread it is newly apparent that all posts and comments will be deleted. :(

They should stay on other federated instances, except if they're explicitly removed as long as the instance is still online.

[–] AngrySquirrel@lemm.ee 39 points 11 hours ago (8 children)

Shit. I keep forgetting to switch instances again. Any suggestions on a decent replacement?

[–] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 14 points 7 hours ago

As someone who just switched, this isn't something you should sleep on. I tried another instance and it was insanely slow in comparison. You might need to try a couple of places to get it right.

[–] lemmy@programming.dev 26 points 9 hours ago

Lemmy.zip has a similar federation policy to lemm.ee

[–] SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

Dbzer0, sopuli, literature.cafe.

[–] 93maddie94@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

I have a literature.cafe from even before my lemm.ee account, but it doesn’t federate with piefed (at least in any way that I’ve noticed). Several communities I follow switched to piefed so I wasn’t able to see or follow them with literature.cafe

[–] BossDj@lemm.ee 15 points 8 hours ago

Here's what I believe are the top considerations:

  1. See which instances are blocked just add /instances to the end of the site. Like: lemm.ee/instances or sopuli.xyz/instances

  2. Check out the "all" for the instance of that's important to you. Each all is different depending on your instance (it's based on what other users on the instance are doing).

I'm going to flip to PieFed since Voyager now has started beta support. I'll be on piefed.social

I just don't want to go yet...

lemme.ee is shutting down at the end of this month.

The admin team is understaffed and suffering from burnout.

You still have a few days to gracefully transition your account to another Lemmy instance.

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 6 points 9 hours ago (3 children)

Wait is there a way for me to move this account or am I misreading phrasing

[–] moonlight6205@lemm.ee 6 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Take a backup from settings. It contains subscriptions, saved posts and blocks

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 5 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I didn’t know I could export save posts

Do I just go to the lemm.ee website and export that?

[–] moonlight6205@lemm.ee 1 points 52 minutes ago

Yes, go to site and into settings.

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 10 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

No, you can't move the existing account. But I think you can export your settings, including subscribed communities.

It might be a good idea to add a description to your lemm.ee account saying what your new account is, kinda like a forwarding address, because people will still be able to view your old account from their instances.

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

That’s what I thought it just sounded like I could move the actual account

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 2 points 7 hours ago

No, the best you can do is, if you want people to know your new one, is edit your profile now with a link to your new account. Because your old posts and profile won't be gone when lemm.ee is gone.

[–] feannag@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I believe you can export settings, subscriptions, etc and apply them to a new account. Not old post or comments or anything.

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 2 points 7 hours ago

Yeah that’s what I thought it’s just they made it sound like I could export the actual account

[–] perishthethought@piefed.social 8 points 9 hours ago

I jumped to piedfed.social (and so from lemmy to piefed as well). The admin on my new instance is really great, reminds me of @sunarus back when I started on lemm.ee.

https://piefed.social/

Worth a look, I think, for all the great new features added to piefed, on top of what Lemmy (the server software) offers. Piefed is still compatible with Lemmy and the fediverse in general.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 5 points 8 hours ago

I went .zip seems to have very similar vibe to .ee

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 9 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, I don't really know what makes a great instance. Lemmy.ca has never made me regret my decision though?

[–] gigachad@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 hours ago

That's because lemmy.ca is a great instance!

[–] scytale@lemmy.zip 6 points 10 hours ago

Most of us moved to .zip. Some moved to db0 and piefed.

[–] juliebean@lemmy.zip 6 points 10 hours ago

this one seems pretty decent and has a similarly sparse blocklist

[–] eli_shitney@hilariouschaos.com 14 points 11 hours ago
