That seems low.count.
Palestine
A community for everything related to Palestine and the occupation currently underway by the occupying force known as Israel.
Anti-Zionism is not anti-Semitism. Existence is resistance for Palestinians.
Please refer to Israel as Occupied Palestine, or occupied territories. The IDF is a fascist and ethnonationalist occupying force. Israelis are settlers. We understand however that the imperial narrative (which tries to legitimise Israel) is internalised in the imperial core and slip-ups are naturally expected.
We always take the sides of Palestine and Palestinians and are unapologetic about it. Israel is an occupying power whose "defence force"'s (note the contradiction) sole purpose for existing is to push Palestinians out so they can resettle their rightful land. If you have anything positive to say about Israel we do not care.
They're still going off the "direct munitions fatalities that the Gaza health service was able to positively confirm" count, and simply not asking why it's been basically frozen for the last six months
Yeah, last I heard the number of Palestinians murdered since October 7th was 377k, which based on the pre-genocide population of 2.3 million (IIRC) would be closer to 16 or 17 percent of the population.
Edit: Actually, went to look this up and it seems that the 377000 statistic was based on a misinterpretation of a study, and doesn't appear to be an accurate estimate. Will leave this up because it was widely circulated & others have probably made the same mistake.
The 377000 figure was arrived at by implications of the fact that Israeli documents showed a total population of Gaza that much lower than the pre- October 7 population.
That would also be inline with the lancet estimating 186000 dead last July, and Trump making remarks that indicated a current population about 400,000 less than pre-October 7th.
And given that the western media has unanimously committed to the absurd claim that the death count has remained perfectly static for the last 6+ months, these are about the best attempts at the true figure we can get
As I understand it, the issue is that the original study was deducting the number of people in the three main population centers (as estimated by the IDF) from the pre-genocide population, and that number was meant to guess at the number of unaccounted for Palestinians who might have trouble reaching """"""aid centers""".
That said, it would not surprise me if the actual number of people murdered is close to 377,000 or even higher; but that specific number seems to be suspect.
Honestly they've been deprived of food, water and basic medicine; I wouldn't be surprised if the number is higher than even this.
I'd ask if Israelis have enough self consciousness to start wondering why October 7th happened and to learn about it beyond the propaganda, but the polls would indicate otherwise.
Also they're settlers living on stolen land; it is in their interest to murder and drive out the original owners; sort of like post-ww2 Europeans who stole Jewish wealth, businesses and buildings who then conducted pogroms to drive Jewish people away so they could keep their ill-gotten wealth.
