Trump has faced growing resentment over the decision of his attorney general, Pam Bondi, to withhold information

Mike Johnson, speaker of the House, called for the justice department to make public documents related to the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, breaking with Donald Trump over an issue that has roiled the president’s rightwing base.

It was a rare moment of friction between Trump and the speaker, a top ally on Capitol Hill, and came as the president faces growing backlash from conservatives who had expected him to make public everything known about Epstein, who killed himself in 2019 while in federal custody as he faced sex-trafficking charges.

Earlier in the day, Republicans voted down an attempt by Democrats to insert language into legislation that would require files related to the Epstein case to be made public. But the minority party is determined to keep the issue alive, and Democrats on the House judiciary committee have demanded that its Republican chair, Trump ally Jim Jordan, hold a hearing with Bondi and her deputy as well as the leaders of the FBI to answer questions about Epstein.

calls for release of files

votes against releasing files knowing base is stupid and will listen to him say the files should be released but not pay attention when he actually votes against it

[–] bender223@lemmy.today 1 points 6 hours ago

wow, didn't think mike johnson would have da balls, despite his namesake 🤭

[–] a9cx34udP4ZZ0@lemmy.world 28 points 14 hours ago

Let me guess: "but just the ones Pam Bondi finds credible".

Shockingly you won't find a single republican on Trump ally on the list because those aren't credible....

There's 0 chance Johnson is going against Trump, this is all theater so when Trump's name magically isn't connected to Epstein they can pretend like it's a legitimate list.

Maybe Mike will fall outa window for this outrageous show of defiance against dear leader.

Trump’s name is circled. The circled individuals are the ones involved in the trafficking ring according to the person who originally released the book. These people would be “The List “ Here is the story.

Would you (or someone) mind converting those to something more mobile-friendly please?

The easier it is to see, the more people will see it

[–] vala@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

It's already pdf. Works on mobile just fine.

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 238 points 1 day ago (3 children)

It's working, keep attacking these fuckers. I just left an angry voicemail to my GOP rep sounding like an angry conservative.

It was about 17 tubes of vagisil.

Even if it does get released we won't see the original list. I'm sure it will be heavily redacted. It's not like there will be any actionable information. What do we expect to see, exactly; A list of names? It's not like there will be an annotated list of crimes.

…right after he and all the other chucklefucks voted to NOT release it.

Honestly, how the fuck does ANYONE take these fucksticks seriously?

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Your average person isn't paying attention to details like this. They don't know, and frankly don't care even if they did.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 13 hours ago

This is an extremely salacious story. Sure, a lot of people have no idea, but the Epstein story has always had more traction than average.

Don't forget that QANON was the factor that shot HitlerPig's campaign to the front of the pack, and the primary focus of QANON, at least at the beginning, was outrage over child sex trafficking by government officials. People who had never paid the slightest attention to politics were now "experts," thanks to the QANON rabbit hole.

THOSE people put HitlerPig over the top, and he needs to keep them on board. Once they realize that HE is the one they are truly after, many of them will crash, and either vote Democrat, or more likely, abandon politics altogether, which is fine, too.

The surest sign yet that the political winds are blowing against Trump on this one, since Johnson is not only a weather vane, but a coward.

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Bullshit. Nothing will happen. He's a convicted felon. They didn't do anything for that. They can't for this. He's a king. He's a dictator. Nothing will happen. If you don't like it, get violent or leave the country. Democracy is dead.

[–] nao@sh.itjust.works 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

He is convicted for things his voters either don't see as much of a problem, or even as the right thing to do. What if something comes up they actually do care about?

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 0 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

They will still fall in line and praise their king. Mark my words, Trump will die in office. Be it in 1 year or 10.

[–] DancingBear@midwest.social 1 points 6 hours ago

More republican voters want the files released than even the national average….

<the decision of his attorney general, Pam Bondi, to withhold information>

The decision of Pam Bondi to LIE!

They tell so many lies they can't keep 'em straight.

What are they doing in politics???

[–] lemming741@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Politics 101- keep your lies straight

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 69 points 1 day ago

If ONLY there was SOMETHING he could DO! UNFORTUNATELY he's just the LEADER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES!

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 12 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (2 children)

And then he will be one step closer to being President Mike Johnson!

pro gamer move

[–] Vanilla_PuddinFudge@infosec.pub 7 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

PFFFFFFFFF, they're forgetting it's 100% a cult of personality.

What Texan is holding his rifle in the air screaming "JOHNSON" or "VANCE" and slapping a big fat bumper sticker on his 4x4?

Just because you impeach Jessie James, it won't make you Jessie James.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 13 hours ago

Absolutely. When HitlerPig assumes room temperature, there will be an all-out WAR for control of MAGA. That should be fun to watch.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

Nah, if impeached (and found guilty by the Senate) Vance becomes president and picks his VP himself. Speaker of the house stays where they are

[–] pachrist@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

Hey now, there could have been some temptingly pleather couches on Epstein Island.

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 46 points 1 day ago (1 children)

lol, but then today he votes against bringing it to a vote?

[–] ganksy@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think it didn't make it out of committee (pls down vote if I'm wrong) so never reached the floor for a full vote.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Blah blah blah blah blah.

That's all this is. Talk.

When it comes time for action they'll vote no like they literally just did. This is all about trying to have their way and keep their base.

[–] Petter1@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I am still shocked every time on how naive some people can be, like, a Person lying all the time, even contradicting themselves in the same sentence, and people still believe that that person does what they say?!

I mean WTF?! How do such people survive?

[–] Ghyste@sh.itjust.works 4 points 19 hours ago

Warning labels.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago

Withholding the Epstein list, convenient gaps in the "Oh, we found it!" video. Looks like Trumps method of putting bleeding edge incompetent people in positions of power comes back to bite his sorry ass.

[–] ileftreddit@piefed.social 17 points 1 day ago

Call their offices. Find one from your state and just call asking why? Why don’t you think the files should be public? Why all the secrecy? Who are you protecting?

If you read this, it’s me asking you personally, directly, to call a congressperson from your state and ask why
