Programmers excited to get home and get back to their linux boxes

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, just a different Linux box

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Must be nice. Most places I know use MacOS if developers demand the ability to use unix boxes, otherwise, it's just WSL

[–] tool@r.rosettast0ned.com 2 points 1 year ago

WSL is actually pretty OK now, it's lightyears ahead of what it was. You can even run systemd in it now.

Embedded development demands Linux.

HPC is also usually linux machines, and if not your yours, the machine you’re remoting into is definitely linux.

And finally take the wig off.

[–] TheRealLinga@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 year ago

No way! My wig stays on at home. Wife has no idea I've been bald for 15 years now

I want to put this up in my cube

[–] riot@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

For me, working from home, it's: Tired of looking at bad program, can't wait to close it and look at good program. Although I think a lot of people working in-office feel that one too, lmao.

When you work for yourself on your home PC what do you call it, a Good-Bad screen or an OK Screen?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

A security threat

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Exactly what I was wondering. I think personally I subconsciously stopped using the "bad screen" for good screen stuff and replaced that with the Xbox downstairs. Also nicer to be spending the time around the family, rather than up in my grotto.

[–] SamXavia@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

@Obi

@PartTimeWarrior29

Yeah I've ended up using a PlayStation for gaming with my partner but I much prefer using the PC when I can, not sure if it's because I can finally play slightly higher end games than I used to or that I prefer the controls.

[–] amnesiacrobat@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Right now, bad screen. But in like 45 min I’ll put that away, walk from my home office to my living room and sit at the good screen

[–] TragicNotCute@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I bet you’re deep into that good screen time right now. You get after it bud.

Thought this was about something else before I expanded the thumbnail, and was about to give my... opinions on display technologies (tl:dr LCD Bad, Plasma Okay, CRT Good, OLED Needs More Time In The Oven)

[–] Duchess@yiffit.net 2 points 1 year ago

bad screen, which is when i do my majority of lemmy browsing.
