This isn’t a falsehood, we all know why Hinkle is saying this, but we should not just run to defend China at the drop of a dime just because of blind ideology.

Under current Chinese law, homosexual marriages are not recognized by the courts, or state apparatus, and are thusly not considered a family unit.

From this, adoption by gay couples is not possible as they are not recognized as a suitable family unit and are barred from adoption. Further, foreign gay couples are also not allowed to adopt within China.

Ironically single gay individuals are allowed to adopt due to legal loopholes.

Overall, a lot of people, both reactionaries and leftists fail to realize that China is neither exterminating and imprisoning gays or that its an LGBT paradise. The “Three No’s” policy is still very much the status quo, and homosexuality is mostly still “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, and very taboo.

This indeed, being bisexual and traveling to and having family in China, I dont talk about it with anyone aside from people I know are cool, but it is changing culturally, I liken China to the 80s in the USA, lot of bigots, but shifting opinion is on the wind, eventually it will get better and one day it'll be fine and normal. Similar to Cuba imo.

Sounds like the exact same scenario as the vast majority of Western "liberal" countries up to a few short years ago.

That’s not an incredibly great thing though. If liberal capitalists countries are ahead of you in something that really begs the question of what is going wrong, and how can it be changed.

There’s significant hatred towards them of course, but even in the US, LGBT marriages have been affirmed by the state for about 10 years now.

I know. He misworded it. It wasn't banned because it was never the law in the first place.

Granted, that is essentially a de facto ban. Exclusion by omission serves the exact same purpose as a ban, even if the semantics are different.

I think the difference here is that hinkle is making it sound like it was legal and then China turned around and banned it, it makes it seem like they’re going backwards in progress instead of forwards

Homosexuality can’t be banned in China cause I once drunkenly made out with a guy at a club in guangzhou so checkmate

Make this make sense...there were plenty of homosexual relationships in China's incredibly long history, and I read somewhere they even have super popular Chinese live action dramas about it.

Like I get that they don't really need Pride like in the US, but I can't really wrap my head around these contradictions. :/

China can make mistakes, China can make bad decisions, China can be selfish, contradictory, or take evil actions. They are still human and China is still a socialist experiment.

The country is still extremely young in the socialist lens and needs time to grow. You can’t just hope that everything will magically right itself in a socialist world. Socialists are human too don’t forget.

That’s why socialists can never lay down their arms and cease advocating for change and progress. Stagnation in the economy, culture, society, education, or etc are one way tickets to death for a socialist country.

Nicely said, comrade!

Guaranteed to be a lie when they don't post a source.

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 1 year ago

Source? Best I can do is a random picture of Xi Jinping and Donald Trump together.
