!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

I'm I the only one who's fine with not having notifications? I personally just open the web/app to see whether there's something new or not.

This goes for all the social media stuff I use... I don't want notifs constantly pushed into my face

Same here. I shut off notifications for many apps. Don’t want things popping up randomly. The things will be there when I’m ready to open it.

A number pops up next to the bell icon on the top right corner

If you use an rss reader, there's a feed of replies you can subscribe to. Extremely convenient!

So, am I the only one using e-mail notifications? It's basically instant.

[–] commie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

admittedly, that is what I'm doing. wanna geek out about mail clients?

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Well, I just use the provider's app, InstAddr. POP3 and SMTP are a premium feature. But anyway, it works well.

I'm using deltachat: it lets me set notification sounds on a per-contact basis. it's not per-lemmy-user but it's still nice to know that it's a Lemmy notification just by hearing it.

I'm very proud of clipping out the bit in Madonna's "like a virgin" where she says "hey!"

How do you do that? I've gone through every setting I can find and I can't figure out how to get email notifications.

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Click on your account, go to settings, in the section with checkboxes near bottom there's option "Send notifications to e-mail".

[–] Meho_Nohome@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I finally see it, but it's grayed out. That's why I never noticed it. I can't click on it.

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Do you have an email set on your account?

[–] Meho_Nohome@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I don't remember. I've looked everywhere to see if I have one, or if I could add one, but I can't figure out where that would be.

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Same settings page, at the top, between Bio and Matrix user settings.

[–] Meho_Nohome@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

Well, you have proven me to be completely incompetent in finding things on my own.

Set a alarm for 9am every day to remember to check it. Back in my day we had to walk to the mail box to check if we had mail.
