I feel like I should point out, this woman did not lie on the resume. She teaches yoga to kids and does events for schools, she would absolutely have been qualified had this event not been the shitshow it was.

If I had a nickel for every time someone unwittingly became the face of something humorous we can all relate to, well I’d at least have a nickel more than what this job presumably paid her.

Good springboards today. Lemmy is starting to feel more alive don’t you think?

In all seriousness thank you for taking the time for a moral obligation. All things should be tempered and while humor is a great tool to distort the truth it should never completely obstruct it.

At the very least, here’s to trying to draw attention to your comment.

Thank you. I really hope the other photo of her gets some traction because it seems much more indicative of her experience working these sorts of functions:

Take it and spread it hopefully further than just the fediverse. Or make your own and pass along the good word

I like it, thank you!

The look on her face is clearly one of disappointment. It’s funny because it encapsulates the ~~children fyrefest ~~ Willy Wonka Experience but I never doubted she was just trapped in the machine.

What’s the context of this image? First I’ve ever seen or heard of any of whatever this fiasco is?

[–] LoamImprovement@beehaw.org 16 points 8 months ago

Oh man, where to begin? So there was an event advertised as an 'immersive Willy Wonka's Wonderland experience' with all sorts of AI art and marketing:

https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/feb/27/glasgow-willy-wonka-experience-slammed-as-farce-as-tickets-refunded

The long and short of it was that the event, not officially licensed by WB (quelle fucking suprise) hosted in a dirty warehouse with little more than cheap props, tacky holiday ornaments and shower curtains, ended up being a complete shitshow. They gave each child, I shit you not, a couple (literally 0-3, dependent on how early your time slot was) jellybeans and half a cup of Tesco lemonade. No actual chocolate to be found in the entire chocolate-factory-themed event. The actors, including this poor woman, were hired and briefed literally the day before the event, handed 15 page AI-generated scripts that, predictably, made no fucking sense, including original characters like "the unknown," and basically had to just wing it in poundland costumes. And like, in spite of it all, they really did give it their best effort, and from what I understand still haven't been paid for their work.

Predictably, the event organizers ended up having to refund people for this sham of an event that they claim "failed to materialize." Well of course it did, the people who were responsible for putting it together cooked up a dozen AI images and shat out a "legally distinct" script and thought it would all come together. Much like Fyre Festival, it's another failure on the part of hucksters who do not understand that events require planning and don't care to understand because they're just trying to make a buck.

Some Willy Wonka experience thing in Glasgow. Entire event was AI generated apparently.

I have no doubt that she’s a professional who was qualified and did the best she can. Even the meme photo is a great choice of takes for an experienced actor who recognizes the ridiculousness of the situation.

And with no intention of taking anything away from her professionalism or qualification, I would also like to add that there is a weird part of me that finds her attractive, even with the green hair and meth lab.

10/10, I’d take this person’s yoga class.

This is the basis of capitalism.

Both parties lie to eachother, attempting to get more than the other party through manipulation and coercion with whatever leverage each party has, rejecting the pursuit of equitable mutual benefit, and when it is allowed to metastasize into every sociocultural aspect of one's cultural mores and values, as it has here in Corpmurica, it creates a toxic, antisocial group of rugged individuals beating each other to death trying to impress the most successful practicing sociopaths who were the best at dishonest manipulation and exploitation of their fellow humans.

If you want to create a civilization at war with and constantly undermining itself at every level instead of working toward the common good of the species/planet/future, this is the global economic system for you!

But hey, it was all worth it for the free market of ideas giving us so many valuable, innovative choices! It has sesame seeds and no pickles?! No fucking way....

Capitalism is when cryptobro scammer defrauds dozens of families and pays methlab oompa loompa in shitcoin

Capitalism is mass produced feudalism distilled in just enough high fructose corn syrup to sell the lie to the people that if you work hard enough and pull up your straps all the way, one day you will be the one pulling the strings and not licking boots. The problem isn’t in facing this stark reality, it’s in having enough imagination to see what could lay beyond the comforting pain of what you are used to and the devil you don’t know.

People are not ready for a complete societal overhaul, I am not ready for it either but we’re speeding along to a future where people will know the bitter taste of their neighbor’s flesh in the name of survival. I hope to be spared such knowledge and for other good people to be too but here we are, entire populations around the world are about die of thirst and we’ve let people (because corpos are people as legally defined for the purposes of money in some places and might as well drop the facade in others) bottle and sell it as a commodity and a premium at that.

For those still reading and capable of abstract thought: imagine you were an entity composed of gas and you discovered a species composed of up to 60% water willingly slave away for clean access. Insanity.

Stranger than fiction though, we can all start boiling our tap water to reduce up to 90% of microplastics (phys.org). Seems like the cosmic jokes on us. Good thing I guess that we’re boiling our planet alive, that way the ultra rich doomsday-prepped assholes who have allowed this design to come to fruition will have everything they want after the manufactured cataclysm wipes the rest of us out.

TLDR; I went off on a tinfoiled rant.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

What absolute societal despair does to a mfer. I agree 100%. The choice is now this uncomfortable, unsustainable reality vs a completely unknown. Odds don't look too good.

[–] Audrey0nne@leminal.space 2 points 8 months ago

I’m definitely coming off as a fatalist and alarmist but I firmly believe there is a path forward that includes all of us. Just the cost will be severe and unexpected, I hope we’re ready. And while my natural inclination is that of least resistance and less pain, I hope it is achievable within our generations. Let us bear the brunt of braving a new world that our children and their children’s children know better lives than we do.

Sociopaths are not in control of society. Sociopath is Latin for "someone with a social illness". Basically it means people with autism, schizophrenia, ASPD and the like. Disorders that make it hard to fit in and follow the rules and get basic respect from others. It doesn't actually refer to a specific diagnosis because it's not a medical term. It's arguable that it was ever an English term.
