Pic is from Alita: Battle Angel. I thought it was a well-chosen moment, in a strange, otherworldly film to suddenly drop this, and left me feeling hyped up for the good guys.

"My only shot at ever being in a gang fight and all I get is one stitch? Chris is gonna think I'm a total failure!"

Love that movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy, vol. 3

I'd been wondering if the MCU would drop an F bomb before they retro-canonized Deadpool and Logan. In this and many, many other ways, GotG3 seemed to really push what you could get away with under a PG-13 rating.

[–] freamon@endlesstalk.org 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Interesting that they went for a comedic moment ("Open the fucking door") rather than an emotional one. Still slightly surreal to hear Chris Pratt say it (it's been a while since Zero Dark Thirty ...)

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

According to James Gunn it was adlibbed and Gunn asked Feige if he can keep it in. The Russos almost had Tony say "Fuck you" when snapping but decided against it. Feige asked Gunn if he really wanted that to be his Marvel legacy to which Gunn answered "Do you know who you're talking to?"

The fact that we have to be shielded from the bad word "fuck" in media in this day and age is somewhat outrageous in itself.

[–] Monster96@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

And showing someone getting killed in a horrific way is good enough to show in media but show one tit or hear one fuck and everybody loses their mind. It's stupid is what it is

Americans seem to be very afraid of things in their kids' stead.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

The indoctrination and brainwashing is a complicated process.

You have to control the information and life events just right to get the desired drone output.

I find it amusing that language is classified based upon frequency of use. If your average thirteen year old hears fuck once, maybe they'll be okay - but how profane for them to hear it twice or even three times in a two hour timespan.

Wolverine in X-Men First Class

[–] GrayBackgroundMusic@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

This one is my favorite. Hugh Jackman is in the movie for all of 15 seconds or something.

Erik Lehnsherr: Excuse me, I'm Erik Lehnsherr.

Professor Charles Xavier: Charles Xavier.

Logan: Go fuck yourself

Be Cool, the sequel to Get Shorty.

They are literally driving in the car talking about how you only get one F word if you want to stay pg13 and Chilli Palmer says "Fuck that"

And its the only one in the movie.

[–] BeHappy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I need to rewatch. I remember exactly who Chili Palmer is.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Dabu is the absolute highpoint of that movie.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago

I never knew there was a sequel. I liked the first one quite a bit. I'll check that out.

The Martian. Watney survives a wind storm after his crewmates make an emergency escape, thinking he was dead. He wakes up, had to perform surgery on himself... Once he finishes he lays back realizing the fact that he is now stuck on Mars alone and says "fuck." Always loved how Matt Damon acted in that scene

[–] CR1VEN5@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's good but the book has a number of well used fucks that the movie suffered for lacking.

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Then again, the book is to the movie what an Olympic beacon is to a birthday candle. The movie isn't bad, but the book is just so much MORE.

Also, if you were stranded on another planet, a few F bombs are the least of your problems. I love it when he gets back in contact with earth. He has to actively work to bring his social skills back into line.

[–] Subverb@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I posted The Martian elsewhere with a link to an article. They got two "fucks" in.

[–] visak@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I wish they'd kept the one in Galaxy Quest that was obviously overdubbed.

[–] proudblond@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I spent a minute thinking about what it’d be like without the dubbing, which is so obvious that it is, itself, pretty funny… but I agree with you. I think the f bomb would be better, especially as it must have been delivered by the wonderful Ms. Weaver.

[–] PoopingCough@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I think thats just censored for tv? Feel like I've definitely seen it with it still in

[–] proudblond@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

You can clearly see Sigourney Weaver say the word, like so clearly that your brain just went with it despite what your ears heard. That’s my theory at least.

[–] c0mbatbag3l@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I saw it in theaters and don't recall it being "fuck" but I could be wrong. It was a while ago.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think it was like that on purpose because it was a joke about the overdubbing.

[–] visak@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I don't think it was that meta. I think they had it in planning for PG-13 but decided to go for PG.

[–] maporita@unilem.org 14 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Trains, Planes and Automobiles. A lot more than one F bomb .. but since they all occurred in a single furious, scathing diatribe by a human pushed to the end of his limits I hope we can allow it.

[–] bionicjoey@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

I love that scene. If they had used just one "fuck" the movie would have been PG-13, but they deliberately had him lay out a string of curses to show just how pissed he was, which pushed it up to R

[–] ArtVandelay@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Her first baby came out sideways. She didn't scream 'r nothin'.

[–] chase_what_matters@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Billy Maddison saying you gotta “find that fucking dog”

[–] Whiskeyomega@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh hang on. That was edited out here in the video/DVD release. It was a PG here in the UK

[–] lemmy_get_my_coat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I saw both at different times as a kid and it blew my mind when I heard the unedited F-bomb

[–] Khtkiller@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

I am a big fan of the F bomb that gets dropped in Dude Where's My Car. Fed up crazy old grandma runs over the protagonists (if you can call them that) Then raises a middle finger and says something like "F'n stoners*. Classic.

[–] Smokeless7048@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I always loved The Core, where the pretentious asshole realizes hes narrating his life away, and has a moment of self awareness before kick(start)ing the earth

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Stanley Tucci can drop an f-bomb with laser guided precision.

[–] riquisimo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 year ago

Oblivion had a good one, but not nearly as good as Alita.

Oblivion's was similarly stated as the "big bad guy" was defeated.

[–] MooseBoys@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago
[–] FARTYSHARTBLAST@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That line almost made the "HIYAAAH" shit less cringe.

It didn't, but almost.

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I liked the movie overall but yeah, there were a number of cringe moments

[–] Blaidd@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago
[–] hakase@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Man, I'm so sad that Alita's story won't ever get a continuation. I tried to read the manga, but it just wasn't as good.

[–] gjoel@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Didn't they recently announce a sequel?
