I'm looking to replace WPS Office which comes by default with Xiaomi phones, what FOSS alternatives do you recommend?

I'm also open to proprietary apps as long as they're substantially better than the FOSS alternatives

OnlyOffice has a usable client for mobile. And it's FOSS.

I was under the impression that it was proprietary? Where can I find the source code?

Curious, I went to the website and they didn't seem to advertise being open source too much.

Thanks for the link!

It's open source but only because in this way they can use GPL 3 libraries. The repositories have missing resources and you can't compile it by yourself.

Not that I wanted to waste a whole week trying to compile an office suite, but for example I wanted to fix a translation, and that's not public. You have to contact them by email and suggest the translation fixes as the language translation repository is only under NDA

This said, better than nothing, and at least they don't try to pretend they're as open as LibreOffice. On their website they're targeting enterprises and being open source it's a side note.

They're not like Proton where they boast being fully open source, sponsoring articles on itsfoss, but then the most important part, the server, is secret and proprietary and anyway good luck understanding how to compile the client from a giant all-in-one repo with no documentation

No its not. No apps on F-Droid and their binaries contain tracking

Perfect, thank you!

I'll finally uninstall that WPS crap

I use Collabora quite a bit, but I don't use any cloud services so maybe OnlyOffice would be a better replacement.

Comes down to if you want to be libreoffice compatible or MS Office compatible. We use libreoffice so for us the answer is obvious. I have a family member that uses Colabora all the time and I have it installed. For me frankly I use Joplin and my Email client. No need very often for office anything on mobile.

I use Collabora Office but on the phone at least its pretty useless. I dont see where all the office went behind that UI.

I like onlyoffice as it integrates with my nextcloud
