By Boss it should say Corporation, or Large Corporate Boss. Because many bosses at companies are earning same as you and got more responsibility dumped on them.

Owner. It's what the owner is taking, and usually they're working way less than everyone else.

I own a small contracting company, I'm working twice as much as any of my guys and don't really make much more than them for hours in/money out. I am in the field with them all for all 40 hours they are as well as weekends, plus all the admin stuff at night. They also make good money hourly as well as cash bonuses

I'm lucky I guess our company owner leads by example and believes in open financial statements. We all see what the company makes, what the expenses and labour are, and how much profit has been generated

Slice the top into another third for rent

This isn't helping. 90% of people's bosses are also being exploited. It's the millionaires and billionaires who are the problem. Very few of which actually work. They're just shareholders with generational wealth.

Stop trying to get people to hate others who are part of the same exploited working class just because they're slightly less poor.

This OP just has really bad takes sometimes. Like 30 percent of their posts are like this. I can't tell if they're a tankie or just so angry that they post anything no matter how out of touch it is.

There's nothing here about hating others. The meme is talking about how the boss appropriates the value the worker produces under capitalism. The meme is criticizing the system of capitalist relations that produces millionaires and billionaires. These people don't just magically appear out of thin air. They're a product of the system. Educate yourself FFS.

Maybe you're unable to read then. This meme says your boss is stealing from you. Most people really hate being stolen from. The manager at McDonald's making 50k a year is not stealing from the cashier making 45k. You're pitting the working class against each other and it's not helping. You're completely out of touch

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml -4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That's literally what's happening, the boss appropriates the value that your labor produces, and then pays you a small portion of that in form of wages. Hope that helps clear things up for you.

Yes I understand Marxist theory. But quoting things written down almost a hundred years ago in a meme without context is like saying that homosexuality is wrong because it's in the Old Testament of the Bible. It doesn't make sense to most of the people reading the meme and it doesn't help the situation. It just pits the working class against each other and makes progressivism look extreme when it's not. Unless of course, you're only doing this to feel superior to people by quoting Marx at them and then saying things like, "educate yourself FFS" so that you can feel like you're better than others. Hopefully that's not the case because you sound completely out of touch.

The whole point of memes is to kick off discussion. Meanwhile, not sure how pointing out that bosses appropriate salary of the workers pits the workers against each other in your mind. You're making a really poor argument here and you just keep doubling down on it. You sound like you just like to argue for the sake of arguing to be honest. Seems like the only one who's commenting to feel superior to people here is you.

[–] catsarebadpeople@sh.itjust.works -2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Ok you're the boss. Everything that Marx wrote still applies literally and managers and bosses don't contribute anything to production. Good thing your meme has kicked off such great discussion about how cashiers should see their managers as thieves.

Not sure what kind of privileged life you lead where you can just post memes all day but some of us have to actually live in this capitalist hellscape. We need the entire working class to rise up, not fight amongst each other because the "boss" who's making an extra 50 cents an hour is appropriating everyone's salary. You're out of touch.

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 0 points 7 months ago (2 children)

This is absolutely hilarious. First you complain the meme is too simplistic, then when explained the context you complain that people are talking down to you. Nowhere have you provided any actual critique of what Marx says, or why you claim it doesn't apply today.

I'm again confused how pointing out that workers need to organize against capital owners is making us fight against each other. It seems that you're very confused and angry person who might want to go outside and touch some grass.

[–] davel@lemmy.ml 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yogthos, are you so out of touch?

No, it is the sh.itjust.workers who are wrong.

Absolutely vicious straw man there. Great job boss. This meme does not do any of the things you claim it does and I've absolutely demonstrated what you just said I didn't. You're obtuse and completely out of touch.

I'm upset that this meme helps the ruling class by pitting the working class against each other. That's it. Your meme does not say, "capital owners", it says, "boss". This is why I'm still questioning your reading comprehension because I've now explained this multiple times.

Anyways. Enjoy your day of posting memes that help the elites that wouldn't exist if the working class wasn't constantly fighting amongst ourselves. I've got to go organize with my coworkers, including my "boss", who are all part of the labor class getting screwed by the elites that you are enabling.

Agreed class traitor ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] davel@lemmy.ml 4 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

I think the McDonald’s manager is a bit of a straw man here, insomuch as it is an edge case. It’s a class traitor job, much like being a cop is. Both are wage slaves tasked with disciplining other wage slaves.

Edit to add: Employers—from owners all the way down to McDonald’s managers—and cops & prison guards can’t join the IWW, but anyone else can: https://www.iww.org/membership/

I dunno man. Even in a utopia where we control all the means of production you still need someone to schedule work hours and order ingredients and stuff. They should be beholden to the rest of the team just like anyone in any position so I see what you're saying. However, comparing them to cops is a little extreme. These "bosses" need to be in agreement with the rest of the labor class and calling them thieves is unhelpful when the real enemy are the shareholders. Let's start with taking down the actual ruling class before pitting workers against other workers just because some of them have been elevated to minor positions of power by a corrupt system. Of course there are bad bosses who buy in too much but I've had plenty that actually care and are just as exploited even if they make 5 or 10 percent more slave wage.

All I'm saying is that this meme is hurting class solidarity and if it actually said "capital owners" and not "your boss" then the 90% of people who aren't experts on Marxist theory might understand. As it is, I feel like most people would just read this and think, "well then my boss is a thief and I hate them for that", which doesn't help.

There should be a tiny fraction of a sliver in the corner somewhere to indicate how much the boss pays on those stolen profits.
