On this day in 1912, the Paint Creek Mine War began when West Virginia miners struck, demanding formal union recognition and fairer labor practices. The incident quickly escalated into one of the worst labor conflicts in U.S. history.

The event, also known as the Paint Creek-Cabin Creek Strike, centered on the area enclosed by two streams, Paint Creek and Cabin Creek. It is considered part of the "Coal Wars", a series of armed conflicts between workers and coal companies from the 1890s - 1930s in the United States.

The strike lasted for fourteen months, and over 5,000 workers participated. Notable labor organizer Mother Jones (shown) came to West Virginia to support the workers, organizing a secret march of 3,000 armed miners to the steps of the state capitol in Charleston to read a declaration of war to Governor William E. Glasscock.

The confrontation directly caused approximately fifty violent deaths from armed conflicts between miners and strike-breaking forces, as well as many more deaths indirectly caused by starvation and malnutrition among the striking miners. In terms of casualties, it was among the worst conflicts in American labor history.

I've been sitting here for like thirty minutes trying to put into words how I feel about concepts such as free will and blame and the caliber of people around me and I'm not sure if that's because I care that much about those questions or if it's just any excuse to be posting while I'm at work.

Not me forgetting to remove the screws from something and wondering why I can't get it open for 10 minutes. Nope. Definitely not me.

I remember somewhere on Hexbear someone posted a quote something like "Somewhere I heard of freedom of expression" (but with a bit more text), in response to some article or some such about a restriction of freedoms in America.

Anyone know what/where that might be?

you ever write something that's competent and well-enough written but that's functionally plagiarism? my boss took the ticket I was responding to and stuck it into chatgpt and it spat back more or less the same document. like, yes, it was a dumb fucking question and they didn't like that my boss' first response was the polite equivalent of lmgtfy - I'm half convinced they were intentionally trying to waste our time. but if I can't add anything over a chatbot, why is my name on it? if the document would be improved by just dropping all pretenses and just quoting the original source (despite my efforts to write it whole cloth myself), why is my name on it? if I literally can't add anything new and original, why is it in our internal docs site and why is my fucking name on it? jesus, just tell them to ask reddit or chatgpt, or literally anyone else who'd feel good about regurgitating someone else's work. so I told my boss I don't want my name on this and he let me take it down.

if it's something the predictive text on your keyboard could write, maybe it doesn't need to be written. I'm going to argue that there's no sense in putting this on our website and that it's functionally spam.

Fallout TV finale spoilers

Is it me or could the

spoilerNCR still be around? The last episode shows Shady Sands NCR remnants getting wiped out by the Brotherhood.

Unless Bethesda really intends Muldaver to be the last of the NCR, that she worked alone, and that losing shady sands means the entire NCR collapsed.

And that we're probably going to see more of them in Season 2 unless Bethesda really that stupid and on the nose?

Jurassic Park but John Hammond is an absolute hack and it's just like, giraffes dressed like brontosaurus' and fake triceratops horns tied to a horse and shit like that. Everyone has to act really impressed or he gets really upset and it's best to just humor the guy for a weekend.

Also guy that like many others got into paleontology after seeing JPark but the appeal to him was being able to dunk on kids.
