Copied and pasted from @kristina@hexbear.net 's thread

Defederate programming.dev

I don't think I really need to explain much, their admins are transphobic. stalin-smokin

https://hexbear.net/post/1587342

One branch that ended up getting triggered due to the frontend snowe uses on mobile not showing pronouns (how most instances handle it currently is its appended to the end of the display name but some frontends choose to ignore the display name and just do the username instead)

Ategon, lead admin, refers to a transgender person as 'triggered' over the transgender person asking for proper pronoun usage from the other lead admin, snowe. Snowe also complained about that transgender person being offended. Ategon said this in an 'apology' post che-smile

Textbook very-smart

Hey, one of the people in question here. Just wanted to clear up a bit of a misunderstanding. Use of the word triggered was referring to the conversation being started by a certain action rather than using it to describe the person. (branch refers to a branch of the conversation and the action is the thing after triggered). Ive edited the post to change the word to started to make it a bit more clear

We shouldn't federate. The community is perfectly fine as is and introducing outside communities will only hurt.

We should explicitly add beehaw to the block list. I know they've already blocked us, but I want to see them throw a fit over us blocking them back. It'll be good dunk tank content

@Infamousblt@hexbear.net beehaw has not blocked us yet actually, because we are www.hexbear.net and they blocked hexbear.net, so starting out not blocking beehaw could be funny

Oh hell yeah

@CARCOSA@hexbear.net

can we defed from ponder.cat ?

its a one user instance and the admin is unironically doing this

[–] CARCOSA@hexbear.net 4 points 3 weeks ago

removed ponder.cat from our allow-list

I nominate thelemmy.club. There's a grand total of two users who came out of this instance.

Unhinged Zionist who posts Zionist garbage.

Unhinged alt of a Hexbear account.

There's more of these alts. I think we have experienced all that this instance has to offer.

done, thank you

if blahaj.zone hasn't already blocked us, they will fairly quickly. as it's where a lot of the trans diaspora is going to wind up, I think anything we can do to forestall that eventuality will be good for us and them.

That is the block-list. poa[.]st and bae[.]st are notorious reactionary troll instances.

Yeah oops, when I posted that, I was used to seeing linked instances in the left column and blocked instances in the right column

[–] sovietknuckles@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago (2 children)

IMO !gamedeals@lemmy.zip should be defederated, all of its posts are bot spam

szmer.info

This appeared in my feed today. Not sure if they’re marking posts as English or just unspecified but all of their content is in Polish.

What stance should we take on instances that don’t correctly tag language? On one hand, browser translation makes it relatively easy to engage, and more languages especially helps to recruit non-Western-Anglo users. But on the other hand, it seems like a mess if our users can’t control the language of their feeds.
