We've known for years that Netanyahu allowed suitcases full of money across the border into Gaza that could only be going to Hamas.

But him going out and soliciting funding for Hamas...

That's a whole nother thing. I know Netanyhu was already likely on the way out before, but I can't see how the Israelis let him stay in control after this.

He's literally the reason all this is happening because the only way his group maintains power is if voters are scared. So he created a reason for them to be scared.

He's literally the reason all this is happening

There is not just one man behind this, despite how convenient this would be.

I agree with you, but you might find the history of Zionism interesting. Before Israel, there was a sizable portion of Zionists that didn't want Israel to exist in the middle east. There were also Zionists that didn't want a 'state'. They thought it was more important to have a safe place for a sizable Jewish population. There's probably a lot of flavors of Zionism that you'd agree with. It's the dominant Israeli Zionism that's horrible.

It's a lot easier to say 'Zionist' though. Just thought I'd share in case you weren't aware.

In the link I provided above it says something very similar:

While it had many strains historically, the Zionism that took hold and stands today is a settler-colonial movement, establishing an apartheid state where Jews have more rights than others. Our own history teaches us how dangerous this can be.

Palestinian dispossession and occupation are by design. [...]

Apart from that when you say There's probably a lot of flavors of Zionism that you'd agree with I must inform you that this is not the case.

He's not the only man on the ship but he's the one at the helm.

Netanyahu allowed suitcases full of money across the border into Gaza

Was so shocked when I read this I took a look and found an Israeli language source

This is damning for Israel but also for Hamas. Hamas is an Israeli plant.

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world -3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Maybe the top brass. The rest of them are just hate-filled fanatics.

[–] TheEgoBot@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 6 months ago

If you killed my entire family and leveled my house and then shot at me when I tried to get food from humanitarian aid then yeah, I'd be a hate filled fucking fanatic too

That was the time when the notion that Hamas would back away from its intent to destroy Israel as long as it accumulates governing and economic assets took root in Israel.

Hamas has said they would be fine with a two-state solution. Its Israel which doesn't want it to happen.

[–] Woozythebear@lemmy.world 34 points 6 months ago (1 children)

This was never top secret... it's common knowledge that Israel funds hamas.

[–] sazey@lemmy.world 11 points 6 months ago

It's the worst kept secret in the Middle East. Or would that be Israeli nukes? Bah I can't keep up.

[–] Zerush@lemmy.ml 33 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Joseph Borrell, European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in January 20 "Israel created and "funded" Hamas to weaken the Palestinian Authority led by the Fatah party"

The same Palestinian Authority that arrests people for the Israeli government in the West Bank.

[–] Sauvandu60@lemmy.id 4 points 6 months ago

Or assassinate people for Israel in the West Bank.

[–] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago

But did Netayahu condemn Hamas while getting them funds?!?

[–] Entropywins@lemmy.world 16 points 6 months ago

Netanyahu to Hamas - you complete me ❤️

[–] Maeve@kbin.social 15 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Some $10 million was to buy fuel from Israel, needed to operate Gaza's power station, $10 million to pay the salaries of government employees, and the final $10 million was to be given in $100 stipends to some 100,000 Gazan families in need.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

In another comment an article is linked saying the money was to maintain the ceasefire. Which could be plausible deniability, but the above also sounds reasonable.

Edit: not sure if my lemmy client is fucked. This was supposed to be in response to @Maeve saying the money was to pay workers and help families in need.

[–] Maeve@kbin.social 2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I suppose it gets hard to keep up with multiple stories, both teller and consumer. Is Clark's law (as the response to Hanlon's razor) applicable here?

I’ve heard Netanyahu and Haniyeh are friends before…

[–] frippa@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 months ago

No wonder, all far-right projects like his need a common enemy to unite against. If there's none, just buy one.
