  1. Every time this happened in the past, the party lost in a landslide
  2. The hand-wringing increases voter apathy, also helping the conservatives
  3. Undermining the candidate is a classic conservative move

Maybe get with the programme and deal with stutters and stumbles when democracy is preserved, okay? Or do you lose a bonus?

Man, numerous sitting Dem Congresscritters have called for Biden to step down. You don't recover from that public loss of confidence. These are strange times - this may be the best choice going forward.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago

He's already losing in polls, and he himself has, clearly stated that at least fifty other democrats could beat Trump.

This is not a conservative plot, it's a very real push from concerned Americans to salvage a losing race.

[–] Omega_Man@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

He should have never been in this situation. Watching videos of him recently have brought me PTSD from a recent death of a loved one who died from Louis Body Dementia. Not saying he has that, I'm saying the way he acts and moves just brings those memories backs.

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

His polling has been plummeting for weeks, 60% of Democrats want him out, and party leadership is trying to force him to step down. At this point, you're accusing people of being paid trolls for agreeing with Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff.

Disregarding everything else, what’s a pod bro? Like vape pod? A fan of the dolphins? Ugly storage enthusiast?

[–] MumboJumbo@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

My first thought went to the Crooked Media guys, e.g. Pod Save America, Pod Save the World, etc…

[–] Gullible@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Because I’m trying to avoid devoting mind space to things that only make me angry, I’d like to ask, is it worth looking them up? Or will they just make me lose slightly more faith in humanity?

[–] MumboJumbo@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

I enjoy them, and they've got some other good shows under the same Crooked Media umbrella, such as Strict Scrutiny - all about the Supreme Court and court culture. The company was founded by some former Obama speech writers and staffers.

problably all the democrats like me who people pretend don't exist with memes like this that see no improvement with him stepping down and more than likely see a worse situation.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

As an independent, i think this asshole has always been one of the worst possible people the democrats could choose. I still remember floods of democrats begging Obama to reconsider selecting him as his vice president... And he was a lot younger back then.

I'm sure the democrats could fuck this up more with a new person, but the chances are pretty low, even for them, to pick someone worse.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I could see your point before his term but his term has been the best of any president in my lifetime as far as whats been accomplished vs the political situation. Honestly even taking out the wierd political situation. I can't believe how many things I like out of this administration. Remember though I am comparing to actual presidents and what they produced. Not I would have rather he did X on Y.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I think, with some notable exceptions, Biden had a good administration considering the obstacles faced. I think that's why it's all the more important for Biden for Biden to step down. He's lost public confidence in his ability to win the election - if he loses, he will be blamed for the loss. Assuming that whatever comes after isn't a 1984 complete rewrite of history, he will be remembered for losing the American Republic to a fascist scumbag. If he steps down now, he will be remembered as a president with a good four years who fought the good fight and decided, in the end at least, to sacrifice his ego for a better chance at saving the American Republic, and that is a noble thing.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

thats all fine but its a pipe dream to think whoever replaces him will have a better chance. I already see complaints about replacements. The only one that makes sense to me is harris as she is the only one who was voted for.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Harris is probably our only real choice.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com -1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah and I tell you if biden drops and harris is selected there will immediately be talk about how she has even less of a chance than biden did and actually anyone who is selected will get the same bs which is pretty much the bs we have now. If biden becomes unable to do the job harris is next anyway. Its like the whole point of a vice president.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Much of both the party electorate and elite have lost confidence in Biden's ability going forward, and at his age, his ability to project competence is not going to get better. Harris has the advantage of removing age from the equation in appealing to swing voters and motivating Dem voters. I really do think we should just bite the bullet on this one.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 1 points 3 months ago

again though she is already running and takes over if his age became an obstical. Just be prepared for the avalanche of posts about how it has to be someone else as she has even less of a chance and that someone else will hear screams of how the dems can't win with them, etc. etc. Mostly because the screams are whispers being amplified.

"Pod bros"? Did i miss the invasion of the pod people? :)

It's the Pod Save America guys, podcasters...

The man pretty openly said he wouldn't step down unless there was no chance of him winning. He doesn't care if him stepping down is for the best (which it is), he just wants to hold onto power any chance he gets.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Just like RBG. Her legacy is now the loss of reproductive rights for women all across the nation.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 months ago

Actually, he said it would take an act of god. Then he got Covid.

[–] Leate_Wonceslace@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 months ago (2 children)

There's no good reason for it. The DNC is not going to put forth a better candidate in terms of policy, and no one else can have the incumbent advantage.

No one is more likely to beat Trump. We're not going to get better policy.

You can tell because AOC and Bernie endorsed him; trust your political allies on this.

Man, they're trying to keep up party unity. Speaking out in public with anything except support for a candidate is inevitably read as opposition - the only two choices when talking on the subject are "I am behind [candidate] 100%" or a total Hail Mary "He needs to step down". And the progressives are in the worst position to make such a demand - if they did, they would inevitably be accused of not being 'team players' and ostracized within the party, even if Biden does step down.

And what if Biden literally dies before the election? It's a serious question.

According to the polls, which are simultaneously unreliable and our best metric for this, Kamala is the best person to replace him. I'm not the only one who'd vote for Biden if he were on life support and I knew he'd die in the first week.

[–] sp3tr4l@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 months ago

Brain Aneurysm.

[–] Soulg@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah let's give up the incumbency advantage! Woo!

[–] Pilferjinx@lemmy.world -1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Honestly, I'd take any of you summabitches over Biden. Can Lemmy be a candidate?
