“My life has become a single, ongoing revelation that I haven’t been cynical enough.” -Avasarala

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 61 points 10 months ago

"Do not put your dick in it, Holden. It's fucked enough already."

You can literally put every one of her lines on a wall in a frame. As long as no children are around to read them

[–] ykm@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

interestingly was just reading "babylon's ashes"...Avasarala is badass

This lady has the most incredible voice

[–] iltoroargento@lemmy.sdf.org 37 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Shohreh Aghdashloo is so cool. Every time I play Mass Effect 2 or 3, I always get stoked for the quarians. Her voice definitely lives rent free in my head.

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Immediately recognized her voice in Arcane too.

Best grandma

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 20 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I really liked her, but I spent the whole series wanting to give the poor lady a cough drop.

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 22 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I just became increasingly attracted to raspy voiced women, honestly.

IMO One of the best Science fiction shows of the last few decades. Each season just got better and better. The quality of writing, the well rounded characters, the budget, the acting... It all went so well. Great shows like this require catching lightning in a bottle, and dang they must've had a helluva bottle cuz it's chock full a'lightning

[–] Tangent5280@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Raspy voiced dominatrices just raking in the money

I just started the TV series. I'm on the last audiobook currently. I sure hope the series is as good as the books.

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

It's so good. Every season is better than the previous. Watch it!

[–] mipadaitu@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago (4 children)

The last season is shortened and they skipped the final book. Other than that, it's basically the same.

Oh, and they changed which one of the main characters died because he was a sleaze towards the female fans.

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

They didn't skip any books, they just stopped before the final trilogy. Which makes a lot of sense.

[–] ChronosTriggerWarning@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

My dog is named Amos because he's a big scary lunatic that I'm very, very glad is on my team.

[–] k1nk33@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Feminism is about allowing equal access to choices for all, including men, doesn’t matter who you are.

If you’re a post-menopausal woman and all you want to do is rear grandkids that’s just as valid a choice as a post-menopausal woman deciding she wants to run for public office. Depends on who you are, and what you want to do.

If you’re talking about constructing social hierarchies based on biology, then only women should be in power because the future can only come from them, ie kids. Sperm is cheap and available in vast quantities, eggs are a precious commodity.

So please no, egalitarian frameworks, ie not discriminating based on sex or gender, are the only social frameworks which ensure optimal self-actualization for current and future community members

Who’s hearing that loud whooshing noise, trying a serious lecture in response to a meme based on popular culture?

[–] nifty@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Eh, this is how I shitpost. It’s not that serious a post tbh 🤷‍♀️

Are the books as good as the show? Is there any value add in reading the books, after I've watched and fell in love with the show?

Edit: thank you, everyone! The overwhelming positive feedback on the books has me convinced. They are on my reading queue!

[–] Krzd@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Fuck yes!!

Did the exact same thing as you, watched the show first, absolutely love(d) it, and was sceptical about the books, however the books are even better than the show.

The books are great, and they continue on the story after the show ended

[–] kireotick@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I actually preferred the show version up to and especially book 3. But then the books have an actual ending and other great POV characters. I'd say they are equally great overall

Honestly I'd say the books are better. I really enjoyed the show, but the books are really great
