Wow, life gets weird I'm the silliest ways sometimes lol.

Well, fuckwit, good job on proving that you know how to multiply a couple of constants and volumes together, congrats!

Consider the amount of energy that goes into welding a large automobile frame, casting high carbon conrods and crankshafts, producing all the plastic that goes into the 3100lb ~~clown tank~~ dodge ram you drive since you're no longer safe on two wheels.

Holistically, quite a lot less energy goes into production of a motorcycle, and furthermore is tremendously easier to recycle in comparison. The much lighter mass from a smaller frame means less tire particulate, less brake dust, and equally important, less time idling in traffic because of lane splitting.

Quality thinking in systems analysis is why engineers make money, versus fuckwits who merely multiply a few constants.

Fuel pump pressures need to creep up to afford DFI (direct fuel injection) which has made up a lot of modern ICE efficiency and emissions improvements. The real solution long-term is electric, but energy density in the batteries needs to creep up a bit, which I'm waiting for with Samsung's new solid state batteries.

Hmm, I don't think that's true either. You as well, stranger.

Quite a long, pedantic response.

I didn't in fact read your other links, nice to see you're unable to imagine others having lives and limited time. At no point did I say you ate meat, but that you are using similar tactics.

Curious, how much writing you do when all I ask is whether you think animals experience curiosity, and how much of it doesn't have anything to do with that question.

Rolling back through your overly elaborate discussions here, you'll note that I never said humans and animals had the same emotions, nor to the same level we as a species do. But I do say what they have is analogous, and that the line between anthropomorphism and observation can itself be a fuzzy concept.

Do you understand that, or will you resort to ad hominem again?

[-] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Unfortunately I've got to disagree with you from the outset, they do in fact express emotions, having witnessed one of my pets feel less inclined to partake in activities he very much normally enjoyed when his compatriot of a different species eventually passed away due to age. That is one clear example I've observed on my own, several times in a couple of different species over the years (unfortunately).

It's a bit pedantic, in truth, to state that these animals don't feel human emotions. Do all of us experience ennui for that matter? Envy, to the same level as one another? Which leads to a paradox of how one defines a conscious, human mind at all, if it were indeed based only on what emotions are present when presented with a similar stimulus.

Further, I'm noticing that you're focused on dancing around "are they human", not "are they conscious", a more interesting & insightful question. Unfortunately, I've noticed this tactic among people who don't want to feel bad about eating other conscious beings. If you eat other passengers on this ship called earth, so be it, but avoid the cowardice that comes with assigning them lower value in a pseudo-intellectual manner.

Do you think animals are capable of being curious, even when there's no impetus for them to be? I certainly do.

[-] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago

How do you know?

My pets express themselves pretty clearly, despite having much more limited ability to communicate across species lines.

I feel reasonably confident in stating that I believe animals are conscious, just to varying depths.

[-] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 45 points 3 days ago

We all know they do. It just makes compartmentalizing other.. activities easier for some people.

Why the fuck would someone compare a shitass lawn mower to performance road hardware?

On emissions, read and learn: https://www.motorcycle.com/features/what-you-need-to-know-about-euro-5-emission-standards-for-motorcycles.html

Thermodynamically, your argument doesn't make sense either as you are still injecting 3x or more waste heat into the atmosphere, nevermind the CO2 (which is a crazy thing to ignore in this discussion).

The last part of your statement is entirely an opinion based in ignorance, people are generally not interested in dramatically altering the reliability of their machines, and manufacturers keep the cat separate from the muffler for bikes where the frame has room. Have you done your own moto maintenance? What bikes have you got?

I like Boston fine as a New Yorker, but fuck Dunkin'.

I dunno what it is, but their fries (animal style with Chiles, or plain) seem to really upset my guts, consistently. I suspect it's their oil, but so far as I know, it's just regular peanut oil..

Fuckin trashbag the more you read about him.

Motherfucker purposely built the bridges for local streets going over the highways much lower than avg to prevent buses (and thus poorer folks) from being able to get to Jones beach: https://www.nycurbanism.com/blog/2020/7/28/robert-moses-low-parkway-bridges

Google Pay alternative?

Hey there, I'm looking for an alternative to Google pay that'll allow me to use NFC payments etc. Thoughts?

I don't have a Google account, nor am I interested in opening one.

E: Just to clarify, the payment part would be convenient, more annoying is how I don't get to use a single place for my subway/gym/ticketmaster passes.

So, after watching "Plagues and pleasures on the Salton sea" (available on YouTube for free), I decided to look into what was happening to it.

Looks like we actually may help with restoration. But what does that mean, where are we getting the water for it? Will that money actually get to us?

Some interesting ideas on reducing the time to decrypt certain ciphered info, in spite of axolotl's large key-size.

Hey everyone.

I built an mk3s+ from its kit form successfully, tested a few PLA prints with the stock 0.4 nozzle.

I've set prusaslicer to use a 0.6 nozzle now that I've upgraded, and am using PETG. Prints look pretty bad, in spite of calibrating z-offset etc.

If you were doing something like this for the first time, what would your setup steps be like?

To be specific, using a diamondback 0.6 nozzle, matterhackers PETG at 235c.

Issues I'm seeing are a really bad loss of detail, lots of stringing, etc.

eta: added a photo of a moderately post-processed part. Notice how rough the top surface looks, there's a disconnect between perimeter loops, etc.
