On this day in 1953, the U.S. and British governments initiated a coup d'état against the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran, Mohammad Mosaddegh. Mosaddegh had been preparing to nationalize Iran's British-owned oil fields.

Mosaddegh had sought to audit the documents of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC), later re-named British Petroleum, and to limit the company's control over Iranian oil reserves. When the AIOC refused to cooperate with the Iranian government, the parliament voted to nationalize Iran's oil industry and to expel foreign corporate representatives from the country.

In response, the British began a worldwide boycott of Iranian oil to pressure Iran economically and engaged in subterfuge to undermine Mosaddegh's government.

Judging Mosaddegh to be unreliable and fearing a communist takeover, Winston Churchill and the Eisenhower administration overthrew Iran's government. The coup action was also supported by the Iranian clergy, who opposed Mosaddegh's secularism.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) hired mobsters to stage pro-Shah riots and paid people to travel to Tehran and take over the streets of the city. Between 200 and 300 people were killed in the ensuing mayhem.

Mosaddegh was arrested, tried, and convicted of treason by the Shah's military court. Many of his supporters were imprisoned, several received the death penalty. Mosaddegh himself lived the rest of his life under house arrest, dying in 1967.

After the coup, the Shah ruled as a monarch for the next 26 years until he was overthrown in the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

How does one 'read theory' ? I try to read Marx, engels, Lenin and they are always referencing some shit or some group ive never heard of and I get confused and lose interest. I try to read Bakunin and his ADHD is even worse then mine, I can't follow it for shit. And i dont know what a 'Hegel' is and at this point im afraid to ask.

I'm frankly shit at reading anything beyond graphic novels but I want to be better at leftism

the "linux for socialists" thread convinced me to switch from [ubuntu for years, kubuntu recently] to Debian!

is any particular DE especially good with Debian or am I probably good sticking with KDE Plasma (I like it)?

EDIT: sounds like I'm sticking with KDE Plasma omori-manic

Why do games default to not muting when they are in the background? Yeah it's nice that streamers don't have the sound cut out every time they alt-tab to discord to message a minor, but they should be the ones who have to change the setting, not us regular folk.

Swinging the junkmail at my dog's face and stopping short, doesn't flinch or really react outside of sniffing it. Little dude has no concept of getting hit, and it makes me happy soviet-heart

Been playing a China game in Vic 2, but the warlords are absolutely fucking me up. I think my only chance is to keep reloading until I discover gas attack and then just commit horrendous war crimes against my enemies

I’m so mad one of my coworkers comes a few inches from my face to tell me that he’s “sick as a dog” and that he “was up all night freezing” and “almost didn’t come into work today but fuck it”. I can’t afford to get sick, not to mention the countless customers he’s going to get sick too. I fucking hate how selfish and individualistic American society is.

The worst part about these shitty roommates is the state they leave the kitchen, which makes me realize how much a clean kitchen makes me feel more in control of my life, and how i never really had one for a very very long time.

it's actually in a good state now, but god knows they're only a single night of smoking the devils most ditch-ass weed before frying up a hamburger and leaving a mess everywhere including MY FUCKING PANS THEY JUST LEAVE DIRTY ON THE STOVE

My Dress-Up Darling is only 12 episodes? I figured it would be longer, or still airing, or something. (I like just started watching)

it's crazy how you can get a detailed story of a guitar Kurt Cobain only played for a few live shows in 1990 before destroying it

also it's weird seeing him play a gibson guitar

oh and there's a comments section where people are saying it's not an authentic gibson but the guy who gave it to Kurt is yelling at people that it is lol

The way Alex Nichols says fuck you is stuck in my head because of how singular and distinct the vibe is. It's pure, distilled "teenager who is angry but correct". Like the school cop is accusing one of the punk kids of something he didn't do, that's the kind of fuck you that would arise at about minute 3 or 4 of that conversation, and it just really resonates with me. It's a scornful fuck you, a fuck you that says "you presume to watch over and know better than me, but you can't even get shit right", a fuck you that draws hidden smirks and snickers from a crowd.

I think it's the intonation, the way he rises high on the fuck and then crashes down level with the you. It gives the impression that he is climbing up from beneath the level of your presumed authority to savage your credentials on equal footing

Laying awake in bed at 4am, checking to see if anyone got the nes tetris rebirth yet, wondering why I'm having a torrent of horrific anxiety thoughts about how I am the most garbage social being ever. "Eureka, motherfucker" - gabapentin, forgot to take it.

Idk if I like that, I have mixed feelings. I like that gabapentin blunts my chronic pain somewhat, and it gives me the good parts of being intoxicated (not being unbearably riddled with anxiety) without the bad stuff, but it seems like the time requirements are rigid and the moodswings suck.

I have these random ad hoc tasks that pop up that would be trivial to automate, but making a tool usable by the end users would take like a few weeks and the tasks themselves take like 15 minutes a month tops.

What's with the (possibly artificial?) drama around Black Myth Wukong? The IGN review has more dislikes than likes and comments on some vidoes are complaining about something.
