interesting, although % of stake ownership sort would be more informational than alphabetical order

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 102 points 2 months ago

So don't buy Fidelity funds. Got it.

[-] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 63 points 2 months ago

Most people who use fidelity use it because their employer matches 401k investments into it... I'm honestly kind of amazed they haven't dissolved given the rise of better self directed retirement fund options.

[-] conciselyverbose@sh.itjust.works 48 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

People don't really want self directed funds.

One of the biggest ways employers have managed to get people to save properly for retirement was making it opt out and automatically ramping up the withdrawal rate over time. You still don't have to do so, but most people can't be bothered thinking about retirement in any way.

Defaults are a powerful thing.

[-] Zahtu@feddit.org 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Not in Europe. I too have owned Fidelity funds at one Point.

[-] Thunderbird4@lemmy.world 23 points 2 months ago

Seems incredibly irresponsible of them to include it in a blue chip fund.

[-] catloaf@lemm.ee 21 points 2 months ago

Unless you're buying individual stocks, or investing in activist funds, you're going to be putting money towards some kind of shitbaggery.

[-] dvlsg@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

True, but do you want to be putting your funds with a company that thinks Twitter is a sound investment?

A few names that may need translation:

  • ARK - Cathie Wood's fund, no surprises there
  • Kingdom Holdings - Saudi royals (along with Alwaleed Bin Talal)
  • Pershing Square - Bill Ackman's fund (guy who made headlines recently for getting university presidents fired for not shutting down Palestinian protesters
  • Q-Tetris Holding - Qatari fund, not sure how connected to royals it is
  • VYC25 - UAE fund, not sure how connected to royals it is
  • Scott Nolan - founders fund (Peter Thiel) guy
  • X holdings - Elon Musk's LLC for limiting his losses in this whole charade

Not an exhaustive list, didn't look up all the names.

[-] Draedron@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 months ago

Ha! I was looking for Peter Thiels name here. One of the roots of all evil.

Ok so how many of those names are foreign companies that have ties to enemies of the state? I am gonna guess 60% of them.

[-] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 28 points 2 months ago

Musk has also managed to attract some royal attention for his endeavor, with HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud also featured on the list.

The Saudi prince has a net worth just shy of $19 billion, per Forbes, and also has holdings in the likes of luxury hotels the Four Seasons and the Savoy, as well as other technology firms like ride-sharing company Lyft.

Perhaps LLCs aren’t such a good idea.

[-] N0body@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 2 months ago

I’m pretty sure an investment stake in Twitter is just considered bagholding at this point.

The Twitter cofounder previously backed the Tesla CEO in his takeover of the company but walked back his support earlier this year, telling a member on rival social media platform Bluesky, "It all went south.”

Did it Jack? You got to unload a limping dog for top dollar.

[-] RedWeasel@lemmy.world 48 points 2 months ago

Most definitely. With the offer that Elon gave the only correct answer was accept it. For himself and stockholders.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 31 points 2 months ago

To be fair, Twitter' was always fueled by drama, and if nothing else, Musky sure has been sure to keep that tank full.

Twitter was actually dying before hand because it was completely irrelevant echo chamber. It survives because its now also a complexity irrelevant echo chamber, however, this time with popcorn worth drama.

If you are any where even remotely close to the political left and are still on that platform "clapping back" at idiots, you are part of the problem and giving Musk power.

[-] 100_kg_90_de_belin@feddit.it 15 points 2 months ago

This. One billion times. People act like they are doing cultural guerrilla, but they are just feeding the algorithms.

Yeah Jack sure didn't turn out to be the visionary I thought he was. Just another scummy tech bro.

[-] GBU_28@lemm.ee 19 points 2 months ago

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

What gave it away?

[-] ikidd@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

I mean, the dog didn't limp much before Elon shot it three times and kicked it down the stairs.

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 62 points 2 months ago

Previously, high-profile investors like Fidelity have been connected with X, most notably because the investment vehicle's filings implied a 72% drop in the company's value since Musk took it over.

Let it fucking burn.

[-] sarcasticsunrise@lemmy.world 49 points 2 months ago

Puff Daddy?!?!? Ew GROSS! One more piece of bile for the cesspool that is twitter

[-] nutsack@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

I don't see what's interesting about this information. we all knew that he put investors together to raise the money. it's a normal thing to do I think. I don't know anything about business.

[-] ImADifferentBird@lemmy.blahaj.zone 32 points 2 months ago

It does confirm the long-standing rumors that the Saudi royal family is now invested in Twitter.

And the fact that P. Diddy is part of this mess is surprising and slightly amusing.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

Elon Musk calling himself trustee of his own trust is mildly amusing too.

Elon Musk as Trustee of the Elon Musk Revocable Trust dated July 22, 2003

That's a tax dodge, right?

I tried to find some info on how it might work, but it probably has foreign companies in the mix or something.
