The apology was at least nice.

This is Tidal's fault bro.

[-] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech -5 points 2 months ago

I'm never going to take a corporate apology as genuine.

[-] LodeMike@lemmy.today 15 points 2 months ago

Well what are they supposed to do?

[-] cybermass@lemmy.ca 20 points 2 months ago

"Tough luck fuckers!" Would be objectively funnier, so that I guess?

Well, I was about to start using tidal. But I guess this is just about who is doing the billing.

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 18 points 2 months ago

Look at Qobuz. It's French-owned, and the owner does not seem to be publicly traded. Those two should decrease the likelihood of explosive enshittification. Plus they're a small player.

[-] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 months ago

I wish there could be some legal guarantee that they will not go publicly traded – otherwise it's a ticking timebomb. It would give a certain demographic of customers more confidence in the service.

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

No guarantee. Existing publicly traded bombs have less time left on their timers.

Depends, they might be running without any profit on VC money and hoping to be acquired but run out before they do.

[-] thickconfusion@lemmy.world 33 points 2 months ago

You may be asking "What's Tidal?" 😂

[-] PoopMonster@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago

Well shit I signed up because it worked on plex...

This is a bitch. I really like this integration. Sad day for me, I guess

Edit to add the my end date is October 28, 2024 unlike OP

@scrubbles nooo 😭

I guess this will be a good impetus to acquire all the music I was getting through Tidal by other means, which I was kind of meaning to do anyway

[-] li10@feddit.uk 9 points 2 months ago

I cancelled mine a while ago, got on that $2 per month Ugandan VPN subscription 👌

[-] Auli@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 months ago

That still work? I was on Argentina subscription but they stippeed that.

[-] li10@feddit.uk 2 points 2 months ago

Mine’s going strong.

My YT premium from Pakistan is getting shutdown soon tho.

[-] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 months ago

As a Plex user and a Tidal subscriber, I didn't even know this existed.

[-] icerunner_origin@startrek.website 7 points 2 months ago

I was on the verge of starting a subscription to try out the AI generated playlists in PlexAmp. I hope they provide a similar integration with another service provider.

[-] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 4 points 2 months ago

You can do it with your own media now, down side is you pretty much have to have everything, but it helps for recommendations

[-] icerunner_origin@startrek.website 5 points 2 months ago

Yeah, I was hoping to have it expand my tastes a little. Oh well.

[-] whynotzoidberg@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I tried it, and it’s a real nice way to discover stuff. I’m coming off the Tidal 2 month trial, and part of me wishes I hadn’t tried this functionality (because I will miss it).

[-] whynotzoidberg@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I asked Tidal to expand on the why. Not the most satisfying answer, but I thought this was a fun sentence:

We can confirm that since your account was activated with TIDAL Direct billing, you can still use the Plex app, and since the partnership will be concluded at some point, it won't work any more.

🤦‍♂️
