I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I loved Prometheus and definitely want to learn more about the engineers and seeding life on planets. I found its lore very original and intriguing
I'll join you in that minority. Really enjoyed the new films in this universe.
You have my axe on this one! I saw it twice in the cinema when it came out.
While there are few things to find disappointing about covenant, for it was the attempt to put Prometheus aside and give the fans the Xeno they always want.
I’m not crazy about it. I feel something that is negatively impacting movie villains, specifically monsters, is the removal of mystery about who or what they are. Fleshing out the hero of the film allows room for relatability, but opening that door for villains has been a bad thing for me personally speaking when it comes to enjoying the story.
Perfect example of mystery for a villain would be Anton Chigurh (movie-wise). His character was so mysterious, along with his motives and goals (which was only retrieving the briefcase) that I equate him as practically being a movie monster, because death surrounded him, and fear along with it. That’s how I think the xenos should be looked at, and the engineers should be even more mysterious.
In a similar vein, Boba Fett’s backstory being added in Episode II.
All we need to know about Boba Fett is covered in MC Chris's Fett's Vette.
100% agree. The reason I love the xenomorph is because it's so alien. A creature that has two beings in a single life form. Weird and strange.
I know it's Ridley's franchise but I didn't like the way he tried to create a backstory. I don't want it explained thank you, I'm happy enough that they're instinct driven killing machines.
Honestly, if they don't treat it as a cash grab, I'd love it. Examining and exploring villains gives us tools to learn from the worst parts of ourselves in a safe way. I tend to look at villains as cautionary tales of beings blindly following their natures or doing horrible things to achieve a goal they believe in. I believe there is always value in that.
