The Senate is set to vote Tuesday on legislation to protect access to IVF as Democrats look to draw attention to Republicans' positions on the issue following former President Donald Trump's statements supporting the fertility treatments.

The package, called the Right to IVF Act, centers on a right to receive and provide IVF services, while working to make the treatments more affordable. The legislation was blocked by Senate Republicans just three months ago.

Now, Democrats are daring the GOP to reconsider their votes, with fewer than 50 days until Election Day.

...

The issue was thrust into the national spotlight early this year, when the Alabama Supreme Court deemed that embryos are children under state law, which prompted providers to temporarily halt fertility treatments in the state. Since then, amid concern about access to IVF in Alabama and beyond, many Republicans have expressed their support for the popular fertility treatments, including Trump in last week's presidential debate.

I'd like to write a bill called "Save Donald Trump's Life" that regulates AR15 style weapons. Then watch and see which way Republicans vote.

Yet if you say "assassination attempts on Trump are just a fact of life. Thoughts and prayers", you get a visit from the secret service. If a republican says it about school shootings, they get to be a vp nominee

"Stop Crazy Fucks from Shooting at Trump" is the perfect name for a bill that requires mental health check-ups to purchase a gun.

Why is this combined with forcing insurance coverage? That is a terrible idea. While I agree people people should have access, I don't see any reason that I need to subsidize another person's unnecessary desire to have children.

Because it’s good for society as a whole? We already do similar things like mandate contraceptives converged under insurance. Plus we also fund things via taxes eg schools, Medicare, etc.

I don't see any argument how it is good for society. Schools, Medicare, and contraceptives are not comparable to elective, unnecessary, and wildly expensive procedures to satisfy an individuals view that their genes are somehow necessary and important to the world at large and they must produce progeny.
