This is brought up twice a year every year. After 40+ years of it either do it or shut up about it.

Yes, let's do it, let's end it finally!

[–] noxy@yiffit.net 37 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes.

Or make it permanent. I don't care which.

Every year with these same articles

[–] swordgeek@lemmy.ca 28 points 3 weeks ago

Yes.

Yes it is.

[–] uhmbah@lemmy.ca 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This again.

It won't happen because the States won't do it.

Stoopid! Because it's no longer needed! And it's harmful.

If SK can stop fiddling with clocks twice a year, other provinces can do it too.

End it. And make it keep winter time. With the outdoors getting hotter every year, I want more time in the dark when it’s ever so slightly cooler.

Nooooo :/ Then I have no more time to go running after work in the fall and spring :c

Maybe we need "winter time" in the summer and "summer time" in the winter?

(half trolling)

Morning light is also a big health benefit. Going to permanent DST would mess people up, especially school children that would effectively start school 1h earlier.

.... So living further away from the equator is detrimental to your health? I haven't heard of this phenomenon.

Yes. Full stop.

Maybe we could reach some kind of middle ground (so permanently lose/gain a half hour instead of a whole hour)?

Change the time everyday throughout the year to keep a constant sunrise time

[–] Splitdipless@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

very year. After 40+ years of it either do it or shut up about it.

Use a sextant to 'call noon' every day? Lovely.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

Centrist brain poison

If it was standard time during the summer months, Montreal sunrise would be 4:05AM and sunset at 7:45PM in June.

If Montreal remained in DST year round, sunrise would be at 8:30AM and set at 5:15PM in December.

If we remained on standard time, we'd have sunrise at 4:35AM and sunset at 8PM in Toronto.

If we had DST year round, sunrise would be 8:45AM and sunset would be at 5:40PM in Toronto.

I think Standard time sucks in the summer. And while I'd love to have more sunlight in the afternoon in the winter, I recognize that having sunrise only by 8:30-8:45AM is detrimental.

There are no health risks. However there is a mental health benefit of not having to deal with this bullshit anymore.
