/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ **8. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Gay man here in Missouri. A lot of my trans friends and me are very concerned about our futures.

[–] sxan@midwest.social 64 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You should be. We should all be concerned about our futures. I'm a white, CIS guy, and I'm concerned. We're completely off the rails now.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I'm a white CIS guy as well, and I'm worried to the point I can barely function this morning.

I work at a not for profit hospital that's already on a shoestring budget. Any cuts to government healthcare coverage and my department may as well get slashed in half

[–] sxan@midwest.social 7 points 1 week ago

In a country with a barely functioning (for the non-wealthy) medical system, it can still get worse.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 29 points 1 week ago (5 children)

I'm concerned about your futures too. My daughter is queer and as of 2 am this morning, we've been working on plans to get to the UK, where I have dual citizenship.

[–] then_three_more@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Doo it. You should me able to get a family visa as long as your daughter is under 18 and your family income is over £29k.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

We're working on it. My wife is sending out resumes today.

[–] Eeyore_Syndrome@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My boyfriend ~~totes not domestic partner of 7 years, because I'm trying to get on SSDI~~ does have dual citizenship in 🇮🇪 (also an O'Brien lol).

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Can you get emergency married and have him get you over?

[–] Schnabeltierplaisir@feddit.org 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Best of luck to you and your family to get out of there as quick and easy as possible.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Thank you. Best of luck to you as well.

[–] negativenull@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

care to take 3 along with you?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I wish I could. I wish I could take my daughter's girlfriend and her trans friend with me.

[–] negativenull@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

That would be much better for sure

[–] TotallyNotSpezUpload@startrek.website 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Any chance you and your friends can hijack a decent State and dig a giant moat around it?

[–] Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think our best hope is to move to California and then wait for The Big One to break CA off from the rest of the US.

[–] CrazyLikeGollum@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Move to Alaska. We need more left-leaning people. We're already starting to go purple and our population is so low that it probably won't take much to get us to go solidly blue.

Plus, you won't have to wait for a massive earthquake to separate you from the rest of the country. Canada will do that.

Tempting. It is beautiful up there.

Never kill yourself for something that's somebody else's fault.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Don’t forget what happened with O’Brien next.

[–] kaitco@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

#facts right here!

I wish I lived to see Cochrans first warp test but it’s the Bell riots for us instead. Fuck I hate this timeline

[–] Alpha71@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Well to be fair, the bell riots happened on the way to Cochrane's big test. Mind you, we now have WW3 to look forward to...

I have to believe that it can get better.

Will it have a chance to get better?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I wish I shared your optimism.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Don't confuse optimism for desperation:-)

But Star Trek is a great example of what can come after e.g. Bell Riots.

We learn and grow through pain.

[–] schizo@forum.uncomfortable.business 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You seem to have missed the global nuclear war that happened between the bell riots and shiny space communism.

Wouldn't mind avoiding that, though it seems like thats getting more and more probable.

Things might get better, after everyone dies for stupid bullshit, but that's hardly a comfort.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Well, I did say after:-).

All that we can hope to do is to give it our best shot.

Edit:

Maybe. But not for a long time. Probably not in our lifetimes.

It's not a phaser, but...... I've thought about it today.

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I know it’s nothing useful for concrete or really all that helpful, but I support you and you’re in my thoughts. I hope things get better for you and all the people who have a tough time ahead.

💚

I understand, but also, please don't. As bad as it is right now, the world is still a better place with you in it. Call or text 988 if you're feeling suicidal, there are people there ready to listen and help.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

As I said to someone else- you need to remember what happened after that moment in the show. But thank you for the info.

[–] melissa_limoncella@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Cheer up, we won't be in hell until January.
