I really want this to happen, if only to ruin all of the "47th president" merchandise being made

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Holy shit, this is an amazing idea. Then she can do the Dark Brandon shit democracy needs

[–] WaxedWookie@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It sounds great until you realise that they'd all just buy new merch, funnelling more money to Trump.

[–] todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee 8 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I don't think you're getting it. Trumpers will buy merch no matter what.

The idea is to wait until they have made enough "POTUS 47" merch, and then make Harris the 47th president just for a little bit.

Now all the Trump merch is wrong.

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

That's fine. Like sidewalk sellers at sports games and concerts, it's ok to spin up websites to sell Trump/Vance shit and donate that money to anything anti-Trump. Think bigger.

[–] WaxedWookie@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

There's no doubt they'll keep buying, but they won't do a full replacement unnecessarily.

[–] ghterve@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I think you're missing that it would be stuff that hasn't sold yet

[–] WaxedWookie@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

That part is certainly a benefit.

[–] Chip_Rat@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

When Biden dropped out and I txtd my other half to tell him he txtd best "Ohno! What about all the Biden/Trump Jail/Whitehouse coins?!?!"

I lol'd

[–] modus@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

She was already President for 90 minutes that one time when Biden was under anaesthesia.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 days ago

She was acting president, but did not hold the office

[–] TTH4P@lemm.ee 63 points 6 days ago (3 children)

More importantly, it would ruin all the Trump 47 merch in one fell swoop.

[–] ReallyActuallyFrankenstein@lemmynsfw.com 27 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Sure, we didn't save democracy, but at this point, I'll take it.

What could go wrong, except you throw fuel on a fire of hatred, and give the right reason to believe she will refuse to step down, causing well, who knows. I'm going to say that would ups the odds of arrests of democratic officials and citizens killed/insured/domestic terrorism what not.

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Oh no... They just get to scoop more money out of MAGA with 48 re-releases.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 14 points 5 days ago

Honestly I'm for it. Extracting money out of trump supporters is praxis as far as I'm concerned

[–] Opisek@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Like they wouldn't deny the election results a second time.

[–] edg@lemmy.world 30 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I'm not sure this kind of mental masturbation is helpful. It's definitely not funny.

[–] frayedpickles@lemmy.cafe 5 points 4 days ago

It's pretty funny

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 48 points 5 days ago (2 children)

The real power move would be to, as a newly protected official presidential act, take Trump out and trigger the need for another election.

All it would take is a strategically deployed covfefe hamberder.

[–] Plastic_Ramses@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

Why do people continually push the idea that a democrats official acts are protected?

They are not.

The Supreme Court decides what an "official act" is, and they most certainly will not decide a democratic president acts as "official."

Actually, you know what? This is a great example as to why america is headed the way it is.

People are far too stupid to understand the politics they indulge in.

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)
  1. I’m not American.
  2. None of this is serious, and anyone mistaking it as such should be summarily ignored and ridiculed.
[–] todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

None of this is serious

Phew! And for a second I thought America's fall into Fascism was an actual problem. /s

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago

The American population, actively and resoundingly choosing fascism, should exclusively be understood that they don’t want to be taken seriously by others.

We can only legitimately begin reevaluating this position once they cease capitulating to fear, hate, and wilful ignorance.

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Rich of you to call people stupid when your vision of what could be done with impunity is so myopic.

[–] todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee -1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You still believe that the SCOTUS immunity decision gives power to Democrats.

Cute.

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You'd have to take Vance out too, as he would automatically succeed Trump

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

My understanding is the VP elect has no power until after inauguration, but if that’s not the case, just include the VP elect and Speaker as line items on the order.

Wouldn’t be too much extra effort to deploy a tactical sofa and bible.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Wouldn’t be too much extra effort to deploy a tactical sofa and bible.

I'm not entirely sure what you actually mean by this, but the image just popped into my brain of trump immediately bursting into flames on contact with the bible, and Vance being unable to control his urge to fuck a couch for the next 3 months

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 days ago

The bible would be for Speaker Johnson, and there’s probably a better vector available for him, but your visualisation can equally be considered canon.

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 31 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Pretty fucking sad that this is the best idea the left has had since Carter.

[–] orcrist@lemm.ee 23 points 6 days ago

Not the left. The Democrats. Big big difference.

[–] Stanley_Pain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 6 days ago

Unfortunately a majority of Americans are racist pieces of shit and a good chunk just didn't give a fuck to boot. :(

[–] _____@lemm.ee 10 points 5 days ago (2 children)

at this point in genuinely not sure if America is ready to elect a woman or a minority any time soon

obama's run was fantastic though. mitt romney had the charisma of an urinal cake

don't think I'll live long enough to see something like that happen again

[–] Snazz@lemmy.world 14 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I’d take a term of Mitt Romney over Trump. At least he

  • had respect for the office
  • could articulate sentences in a clear manor
  • had a plan, and could explain it
  • wasn’t a convicted felon/rapist
  • had decorum in discourse/debates
[–] Archer@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

That’s why Obama implemented RomneyCare lol

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

I am far less inclined to vote for a woman in the primaries after this. Even though I voted twice for a woman in the general. It’s just a losing strategy in this country.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

The hardcore supporters wouldn't be bothered. They're interested in the future of America (which they hope to be as racist and bigoted in general as they are), not the present.

[–] BadlyTimedLuck@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

I'd like to imagine this but I'm too disappointed. I think it's pretty naive to hope anyone is looking out for us. Everyone is out for themselves, so make sure you can talk without the picture watching.

[–] snowboardbum@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Neither need to debase themselves for this nonsense.
