Idk, like I generally really like our mods and admins but this change doesn't really make a ton of sense to me and the way it was decided and messaged made it way worse.
It's also pretty fucked up that this is completely different reasoning than has been provided in the 1k+ comment post where they told us they are doing it because it makes us too grumpy.
Wait what happened
Dunk and dredge tanks are locked down by admins, apparently after the mods and admins discussed it amongst themselves without consulting the userbase.
Originally it was because it turns out dunk tanks have a racist origin, but the rules for the replacement comms are that basically one of them is the dunk tank and the other one is the dredge tank but only for effort posts.
When everyone got upset because that obviously defeats the point of the dredge tank the admins posted a list of the reasons they are closing the subs which was basically "It just gets everyone all riled up and saying mean shit about racist assholes is actually just a cishet white guy activity."
This also got a shit ton of pushback obviously and then the OP of this thread turned up with this screenshot which seems to indicate that literally everything the admins have been communicating is horseshit.
Idk, I'm not one of the most prominent posters here or anything but I've been posting on this site for years now and I'm pretty sad to see it take this turn.
Moderators holding contempt against their own communities, preferring to satisfy their own clique. Start announcing radical changes that will eventually lead to a mass exodus.

Ah... I see how this decision was reached. They wanted to stop inter-lemmy drama occurring, but the options available to achieve that all suck.
Option 1: Prevent posts about federated lemmys, would be dramatic because you know how that would be criticised
Option 2: "No brigading" rules. Won't work because you know how that would be criticised.
Option 3: Close all the comms dedicated to criticising liberals or fascists. Dramatic because the people want their slop.
